Well, we are finally here. The opening night of the 2023 NFL season is upon us as the Detroit Lions are at Arrowhead Stadium for a clash with the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Detroit Lions Prediction
The Detroit Lions took massive steps forward last year and once again this offseason. I expect one of football's most exciting and widely supported squads to continue in the right direction this year, but it is hard to see them knocking off the Chiefs here in Week 1. The fact that Jared Goff is 6-0 ATS in Week 1 as a starter in his career is impressive and an interesting nugget, but he has never opened the season at Arrowhead Stadium against the league juggernaut.
Fact: the Kansas City Chiefs are the team of this generation; this is a dynasty. Andy Reid is one of the best coaches in the NFL, not only now but in the entire Super Bowl Era, and since Patrick Mahomes has been his signal caller, this team has been more than a handful for every opponent they play. Not having Chris Jones and potentially Travis Kelce can definitely be problematic for this squad, and that is why the spread has moved some 2-2.5 points all across the board, but it is going to stay where it is for a reason.
Andy Reid is 9-1 in season openers in his time at the helm for the Chiefs, and Patrick Mahomes QBR in season openers is extraordinary. Kansas City is 9-2 ATS across the last two seasons in non-conference games and 11-0 straight up in those spots; Kansas City is a phenomenal parlay piece tonight for any play you want to pair them with, but I am taking the spread here.
