After watching the Detroit Lions beat reigning MVP and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs at home during their banner ceremony on Thursday night, we should prepare for more chaos in Week 1. This is the time when every team has playoff and Super Bowl aspirations, while there is limited tape on the coaching schematics and player usage, creating optimal value for betting on anytime touchdown scorers.
Week 1 usually has a lot of upsets, which means we could see some big odds cash from players who may not consistently deliver scoring production for the rest of the season. Eight games feature divisional matchups, so right away, we're going to see a lot of scrappy plays due to animosity and familiarity.
There are some big lines in NFL betting markets, including Baltimore -9.5 and Washington -7, while six matchups have favorites at -3 or less. It's a strong blend of matchups entering uncharted territory in Week 1, so let's have some fun and cash a few anytime touchdown scorer prop bets to build our bankroll and enjoy the return of meaningful NFL football!
Best NFL Week 1 Anytime TD Bets
Brian Robinson Jr. Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+118) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds for this pick
Washington has new OC Eric Bienemy calling the plays now, so expect running backs Brian Robinson Jr. and Antonio Gibson to each garner a lot of touches to bail out quarterback Sam Howell early on against the Arizona Cardinals. Robinson, who suffered a gunshot wound in his leg and buttocks that kept him out for the first month of his rookie season, is in a much better spot now, fully healthy and spending a full offseason with the Commanders' first-team offense. Yes, Robinson only scored two touchdowns last season, but he faces Arizona's run defense, which gave up 21 rushing touchdowns in 2022, ranked fifth-most in the league. The Commanders will have several trips inside of the red zone, where Robinson is all but guaranteed to punch in an anytime touchdown on the ground or through the air.
Jaylen Waddle Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+140) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds for this pick
Miami's offense runs through its wide receiving corps, which is headlined by WR1 Tyreek Hill, giving Jaylen Waddle a significant advantage as the WR2. He didn't do much against the Chargers on the road in Week 14 last year, hauling in two of four targets for 31 receiving yards, but Waddle logged eight touchdowns in his second season with the Dolphins. The former top-ten draft pick enters his third season in the league, which is usually the breakout year for wideouts. Plus, he faces a Chargers pass defense that ranked 15th in passing touchdowns allowed (24) in 2022. Hill dominated the stat sheet in the last head-to-head matchup, but with a healthy Tua Tagovailoa, plus a full offseason to prep for this Week 1 matchup, Waddle scoring an anytime touchdown feels like an absolute lock.
Amari Cooper Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+170) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds for this pick
Cleveland had quarterback Deshaun Watson available for its entire offseason, training camp, and preseason, which should help develop the rapport between Watson and WR1 Amari Cooper. The veteran wideout enters his ninth year in the league, but he's still cooking defensive backs and running crisp routes. Cooper scored a touchdown against the Bengals in their first matchup last season while finishing with a 5-131-1 stat line on seven targets. Watson only found Cooper twice after he took over QB1 duties last season, but this is a Bengals defense that lost several key starters in its secondary, so let's roll with Cooper to score right out of the gate with solid value at +170 odds.
Adam Thielen Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+255) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds for this pick
Adam Thielen finds himself on a new team for the first time in his NFL career. He'll look to help out rookie quarterback and No. 1 overall draft pick Bryce Young as the Panthers face a divisional opponent on the road. Thielen is being undervalued at +255 odds at Caesars Sportsbook, but he did deal with an ankle injury, showing up as questionable on the Week 1 injury report. He's expected to play now while DJ Chark will be out, leaving Young with fellow rookie wideout Jonathan Mingo, tight end Hayden Hurst, and JAG Laviska Shenault Jr. in his receiving corps. Thielen has scored two career touchdowns against the Falcons, and despite additions made this offseason, Atlanta's secondary allowed 26 receiving touchdowns in 2022, which was tied for eighth most in the league. The veteran wideout will be leaned on as long as he's on the field, so at +255, let's pounce on this value.
Dalton Schultz Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+310) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds for this pick
Another player who found a new home this offseason is tight end Dalton Schultz. The former Cowboys TE1 will serve as the primary safety blanket for rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, facing a stout Ravens defense on the road in his first start. Schultz has scored the first touchdown in each of his last two starts, albeit with Dallas, not Houston. Still, the Texans are going to fall behind quickly against the Ravens, who are 9.5-point favorites at home, so Stroud will need to move the ball through the air, which is likely to be Schultz operating in the middle of the field. Schultz is a threat anytime he's in the red zone, so at +310 odds, we're obligated to place a unit on his anytime touchdown scorer prop.
