The first Sunday of the NFL season is here, and there are storylines and rookies everywhere. With so much action on this Sunday, I have two anytime touchdown picks, both of which are plus money. Let's jump right into it.
Week 1 Anytime TD Picks
Justin Fields Anytime Touchdown @ +160 (Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds)
Ah, the Bears. The Bears finished 3-14 last season, which was good for last place in the NFC North and last place in the NFL overall. While the Bears had a horrible season, there are some positives entering this season. Fields finally has some receivers to throw to, and he has also gained a ton of confidence through the air and mostly on the ground.
In 2021, Fields' rookie season, he played 12 games and rushed for 420 yards on 72 carries, averaging 5.8 yards per carry. In 2022, his second year, he more than doubled his carries and nearly tripled his yards, rushing for 1,143 yards on 160 carries. Fields actually led the team in rushing yards last season, and we could be looking at the same thing in 2023. Fields is one of the most athletic quarterbacks in the league, and probably the fastest runner as well. He is very elusive and can escape the pocket in a flash. With that being said, I love him to score for the Bears using his feet tonight. While Fields led the team in rushing yards, he also led the team in rushing touchdowns with eight. Fields should pick up right where he left off in 2022 and grab another rushing touchdown against the Packers in the season opener at Soldier Field.
Jaylen Waddle Anytime Touchdown @ +150 (Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds)
The Key to the Dolphins' success this year is Tua staying healthy. After injury concerns with concussions all last season, Tua has had a long offseason to recover and now returns healthy in week one this season against a high-flying Chargers team.
Both teams should be scoring a lot in this game. The total in this game is the highest of any Sunday game, and points mean touchdowns. The more touchdowns in this game, the more opportunities we have for Waddle to score. The Dolphins have a pretty good defense entering this season, but Justin Herbert and the Chargers offense are a top-five unit that should score plenty. The Charger's defense is below average, which is not a good sign when facing Tua with weapons like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
For a majority of the game, Tyreek Hill will be covered by Michael Davis, who is the best Chargers cornerback. Waddle will be covered by the much worse J.C. Jackson. With eyes on Hill from the Chargers defense, this will open up one-on-one opportunities for Jaylen Waddle. Waddle actually outscored Hill with 8 touchdowns to Hill's 7 in 2022, and I expect him to find the end zone in game one tonight.
