Well, I said I wanted to start getting a jump on football earlier in the week with so much action going down on the gridiron on the weekends, so I want to dive into a play I love this afternoon. We are going to have to wait a few days for this wager to cash, but good things come to those who wait, and I am willing to do that for this play. We are combining Thursday Night Football with one of my favorite plays on Sunday, and I am ready to wait to cash in on this winner.
Let's dive in.
NFL Week 2 Teaser
Leg 1: Minnesota Vikings vs. Philadelphia Eagles
I love Kirk Cousins after watching Quarterback on Netflix (and have always loved him since "you like that!"), and despite how glorious the regular season was for Minnesota last year, I find it hard for them to replicate that success this year to the same extent. They won eleven one-score games last season, the most in NFL history, including that miraculous comeback on Christmas Day.
That will not happen again this season.
We also are getting primetime Kirk Cousins, who has historically struggled immensely. I love that squad, and I hope they do well this year, but following Sunday's loss to the rebuilding Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it is hard to see the Vikings knocking off the Philadelphia Eagles at home on Thursday night. The reigning NFC champions struggled for a bit against a well-coached Patriots squad but still held on in the end, and I expect them to roll that momentum forward tonight.
Leg 2: San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams
I was actually really impressed with the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1, specifically the tandem performance in the backfield by Kyren Williams and Cam Akers. I do believe this squad will be better than we initially thought they would be this year, but, with that said, San Francisco is not an opponent I expect them to roll with as they did Seattle.
Kyle Shanahan has dominated Sean McVay in their clashes head-to-head, and I see no reason why we should expect anything different tonight. San Fran is one of the true powerhouse teams in the league, with a top-three defensive unit and one of the most wonderfully schemed offenses in my lifetime. They are uber creative, very dynamic, and just a lot to handle for anyone, especially a Rams defense that has without question taken a step back the last two years.
Brock Purdy looked strong in Week 1, and Matthew Stafford is 0-4 in his career against the 49ers in the regular season. San Francisco has won and covered in eight of the last nine meetings.
