Kansas City Chiefs vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Prediction
The Chiefs enter this game with a 0-1 record after losing their season opener on Thursday night to the Detroit Lions.Â
Neither team played well, but the main takeaway from the loss was that Patrick Mahomes needs some help on offense. Super Star Tight End Travis Kelce missed the Chiefs' Week 1 game, which left a huge hole in the passing game.Â
Kadarius Toney might have played the worst game that I have ever seen from a Wide Receiver. If Toney did not play, the Chiefs would likely win the game. Toney dropped an easy pass that deflected into the defender's hands, who ran it the other way for a pick-six. As if that play was not bad enough, Toney dropped a pass that would have set the Chiefs up for at least a game-winning field goal attempt, if not more. Toney had three total drops in the game.Â
The Chiefs' defense played pretty well, considering that their best defender did not play.Â
Defensive Tackle Chris Jones reached an agreement with the Chiefs on Monday, which means Jones will return to the field on Sunday. That is a key addition for the Chiefs, as he is the heart and soul of this defense.Â
Patrick Mahomes played well enough to win, and he will look to avoid starting 0-2 for the first time in his career as a starter.Â
Jacksonville survived a scare from the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. The Jags trailed in the fourth quarter but would storm back to win the game by double digits.Â
Trevor Lawrence played a great game, throwing for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Lawrence had a QBR of 103.8.Â
Travis Etienne Jr. led the rushing attack for the Jags with 77 yards and one touchdown.Â
Calvin Ridley was the star in the passing game. The veteran wide receiver wasted no time scoring in the first quarter in his return. Ridley ended the game with 101 receiving yards.Â
The Jags defense struggled to stop rookie Anthony Richardson. If Jacksonville wants to win this week, they will have to be much better on defense facing Patrick Mahomes.Â
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Pick
Patrick Mahomes will not start the season 0-2.Â
Jacksonville still has ways to go on defense, and they are not ready to match up against Mahomes and this KC offense that should have Travis Kelce back.Â
The addition of Kelce is significant, but the surrounding players will perform better than they did last week.Â
As mentioned, getting Chris Jones back is huge for this KC defense, which impressed me in Week 1.Â
