New Orleans Saints vs. Carolina Panthers Prediction
Anytime divisional opponents meet, tensions are higher, and the will to win is increased. New Orleans does not need this game, but winning it keeps them on a strong track in the division they are expected to win. On the flip side, losing this home opener would really put Carolina behind the eight-ball on the season.
Frank Rich should pull out all the stops tonight and throw the kitchen sink at the Saints, but unless they can dominate this game defensively, I do not know how they pull this out in the end. Do not get me wrong, this game is set at the line it is for a good reason. The divisional aspect is huge. New Orleans struggled immensely on the offensive line last week; all it takes is a turnover or two to flip this game on its head. With that said, New Orleans has the edge tonight, and even a slight improvement offensively will help them roll tonight.
Bryce Young will progressively get better each week in his debut season here, but Derek Carr is a veteran with a chip on his shoulder. The injuries to Carolina's secondary should help Carr connect with a strong receiving corps and, in turn, open up the ground game. Bryce Young should not make as many mistakes in Week 2 as he did in his debut, but it is still a tough ask here tonight.
