People forget the Carolina Panthers swept the New Orleans Saints last year. All the hype in this MNF matchup tonight is centered around Derek Carr and the Saints. They were barely able to defeat the Titans at home last week. Do the Saints deserve this much hype?

New Orleans Saints vs. Carolina Panthers Prediction
Derek Carr played well in his New Orleans debut last week, throwing for over 300 yards and a touchdown. The Saints are going to have to rely heavily on DC once again tonight, considering they had the worst-rated rush attack in the NFL last week. Until Alvin Kamara comes back, this team isn’t a threat on the ground.
The Panthers will be without Jaycee Horn tonight, but their defense is underrated as a whole. Frank Reich historically struggles in the first week of the season, bouncing back in Week 2. Their offense with Bryce Young under center may not be in mid-season form yet, but the Saints offense didn’t look much better in their opener.
There’s value on the Panthers and their rookie QB tonight. Since 2005, divisional underdogs are cashing 56% ATS in the month of September. When rivals face off early in the season, the underdogs tend to cover. This should make you feel better about backing this horrid-looking Carolina offense tonight.
With the total creeping down to 39.5, it’s clear that points are going to be hard to come by. The last time these two teams played, the final score ended 10-7. These two organizations know each other so well, and will have a good idea of what to expect even with two new quarterbacks under center.
The public is hammering New Orleans in this spot, and I don’t blame them: the Panthers looked horrid in the first week of the season. I’m not saying the Saints don’t find a way to win this football game, but 3.5 points is too many for a divisional game this early in the season. Fade the public and back the Panthers on the spread at home.
