Jimmy Garoppolo will be facing his former team once again this afternoon. He’s thrown seven interceptions already this season, a streak that needs to end if the Raiders want any chance of being successful. Luckily for Jimmy G, the Patriots only have one interception this season, and it was Christian Gonzalez who’s now out for the season.
When I checked to see what the odds were for Jimmy G to throw an interception, I was shocked to see him only at (-125). I thought he would be closer to (-150), or even at 1.5 INT considering his recent struggle with the turnovers. I mean, he’s thrown more interceptions than touchdowns this season.
My contrarian senses have been tingling all week looking at this prop. You could consider this a narrative play, considering Jimmy G will be facing his old team who traded him away. Wouldn’t it be fitting if this is the team he breaks his INT streak against? It doesn’t hurt that the Patriots’ secondary has zero hands.
Seeing the Raiders laying three against the Patriots tells me everything I need to know. This Patriots team truly is that bad; even their defense has taken a step back. They’ve struggled to force turnovers all year, which bodes well for Jimmy G considering his recent struggles. I’m willing to bet he ends his INT woes this afternoon against a team he’s very familiar with.
Jimmy G should continue to get more comfortable every week with his new squad. The Raiders should be up in this game; expect them to run the ball early and often with Josh Jacobs. Garoppolo has been costing the Raiders opportunities to win games. At some point, Coach McDaniels has to simplify the offense, take less shots down-field, and run the ball more. With all these factors, and a matchup against a secondary that has one interception through the first five games, bet on Jimmy G to keep the ball secure through the air tonight. He isn’t throwing an interception against his own team.
