The Eagles might be 10-1 atop the NFC with a league-best 7-2-2 ATS record, but that doesn’t mean they are the better team. Just look at the spread. Oddsmakers clearly think San Francisco is the better team, making them a three-point favorite on the road in Philly. That’s some serious respect for a second year QB matched up with Jalen Hurts, the favorite to win the MVP.
Brock Purdy and the 49ers are looking to get revenge against the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last season. They’ve also had three extra days to prepare for this matchup, a huge advantage for Kyle Shanahan. They’ll have a solid matchup against a struggling Eagles’ secondary that’s gotten bailed out by their quarterback numerous times this year.
The Eagles defense isn’t bad, but their pass defense is. They give up the fourth-most yards per game through the air this season behind Washington, Tampa Bay and the Chargers. Those aren’t defenses you want to be grouped with. Brock Purdy has regained his confidence with solid performances against Jacksonville, Tampa Bay and Seattle in recent weeks. He should dominate this struggling Eagles secondary.
This 49ers team has been unstoppable since trading for Chase Young. Their defense is elite; it doesn’t matter how good the Eagles offensive line is, they will struggle against Nick Bosa, Chase Young and the best defensive line in the league.
Was anyone else shocked to see the 49ers open up as favorites in this game? I certainly was, and I was even more surprised when I saw them move up to a three-point favorite. This spread is extremely telling. The Eagles pulled off some miracle wins in recent weeks, but the party ends this afternoon. San Francisco’s defense is on another level right now, and the Eagles’ secondary is in for a rough afternoon.
