Quarterback Spencer Rattler has quietly looked sharp and composed through four games, ranking 17th in Success Rate, 15th in Completion Rate, and 16th in Completion Percentage Over Expectation. That’s legitimate league-average play from a young quarterback still searching for his first NFL win — something that could easily come this week.
Rattler’s poise and accuracy have helped stabilize this offense, and he may even get an added weapon back in Taysom Hill, who can be a real difference-maker in short-yardage and red-zone packages. With a versatile offensive approach and a quarterback who’s taking care of the football, the Saints are trending in the right direction.
The Giants’ win last week had more to do with defensive circumstance than offensive brilliance. Rookie QB Jaxson Dart threw for just 111 yards in his first start — benefitting from a Chargers offensive line that completely collapsed, gifting New York short fields and easy scoring opportunities.
Now Dart faces a much tougher challenge: his first-ever road start, without his top receiver Malik Nabers, and against a defense that’s had a full week of film on him. Defensively, the Saints have also been solid against the run — ranking 16th in Rush EPA and 11th in Rush Success Rate. The Giants, on the other hand, have been dreadful in that area, ranking dead last in both categories. That gap in trench play is where the game likely turns. New Orleans should be able to sustain drives on the ground, while the Giants will struggle to find consistent lanes.
This is a great buy-low spot on New Orleans and a potential sell-high on New York. The Giants are coming off a fluky win that made the box score look better than their actual play, while the Saints are undervalued after several competitive losses to elite opponents.
The Saints have the more complete roster, the steadier quarterback play, and the defense that’s built to limit the Giants’ one-dimensional offense. If Rattler avoids turnovers and the Saints’ defense forces Dart into third-and-long situations, this game tilts heavily toward New Orleans.
