Lions vs. Eagles Prediction
The Lions’ entire offensive identity has already shifted under Dan Campbell. They’re bottom-six in pass rate, bottom-six in PROE and now come into this game without their most important receiving weapon in Sam LaPorta. Losing a tight end who accounts for nearly 500 yards in the middle of the field — where Jared Goff does almost all of his damage — is massive. Add in both starting tackles banged up, and suddenly “Outdoor Goff” becomes even shakier than usual.
And that version of Goff has been a drastically different quarterback throughout his career. Indoors, he’s elite: 102.8 rating, nearly 69% completions, and clean efficiency. Outdoors? It slips across the board — lower completion rate, more sacks, more turnovers, fewer touchdowns. Now he faces a surging Eagles pass rush that just posted its highest pressure rate of the season without even blitzing. Jaelan Phillips alone generated eight pressures on Monday night.
This is not a favorable setup for the Lions.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia’s defense is playing at a legitimate championship level again. Their pass defense has climbed to sixth in the NFL in yards per attempt, and when Jalen Carter is on the field, it’s one of the league’s best run units as well (just 3.6 YPC allowed). That’s the exact formula you want when facing Detroit’s slow, methodical offense — force Goff into obvious passing downs against pressure, limit the run early, and make him beat you outside of structure.
Offensively, Philadelphia has shifted into a more conservative style — heavier personnel, slower pace, methodical drives — but it’s working. Jalen Hurts has stopped forcing plays, the turnovers have come down, and they’ve leaned into their identity rather than fighting it. And while A.J. Brown is always capable of taking over, this offense doesn’t need fireworks to win this particular matchup. It just needs to avoid mistakes — and that’s been Hurts’ focus for weeks.
The betting profile also leans heavily to the home team. The Eagles have been one of the most profitable favorites in football the past three seasons, going 17–6 ATS as a favorite of six or fewer points since 2023. They handle these coin-flip spreads extremely well. Meanwhile, the Lions are walking into a brutal situational spot: banged-up pass catchers, injured tackles, slow outdoor environment, and a quarterback who has historically struggled in exactly these conditions.
Detroit exceeded expectations Monday in perfect conditions against a below-average Washington defense. This is an entirely different challenge.
For the Eagles, this is the type of matchup they’ve specialized in under Hurts — home, prime-time, and built on defense and discipline rather than shootouts. This team has the pass rush, the secondary, and the coaching edge to control this game from the jump. And against Outdoor Goff missing his most important weapon, the difference in execution should be noticeable.
