Jaguars vs. Cardinals Prediction

Jacksonville simply hasn’t been a good road team. The Jaguars’ résumé away from home is shaky at best — a four-point loss to Jake Browning’s Bengals, a one-point overtime escape against the Raiders, a five-point win over San Francisco helped by a kick return touchdown, and a loss at Houston where they gave up 26 fourth-quarter points to Davis Mills. This team consistently struggles when traveling, and now they’re dealing with key injuries on both sides of the ball.

Today they walk into a Cardinals team that’s better than the market realizes. And the lookahead lines back that up — this game was projected as Arizona -1 to -1.5 before last week’s results. Nothing meaningful happened that should justify a four-point swing the other direction. Arizona outgained the 49ers by 250 yards, but turnovers and a 98-yard kick return buried them. Jacksonville, meanwhile, capitalized on a Chargers team with a decimated offensive line. One was unlucky, and one was fortunate — and the reaction has gone too far.

Even without Harrison, the quarterback play favors Arizona. Jacoby Brissett has been fantastic, setting an NFL record last week for completions in a game without a WR1. He elevates everyone — Trey McBride found the end zone, and Michael Wilson erupted for 185 yards. Greg Dortch has become a reliable chain-mover, and the Cardinals have quietly been far more efficient since Brissett stepped in.

On the other side, Jacksonville’s passing attack is near the bottom of the league in EPA per play. Trevor Lawrence just hasn’t been good, especially on the road, and the Jags are dealing with cluster injuries — Jourdan Lewis, Anton Harrison, Brenton Strange, and even Travon Walker are all either out or banged up. Their offense likely leans on the run, but even that becomes murky if Bhayshul Tuten isn’t fully healthy. Travis Etienne can’t take 30 carries every week.

The matchup also quietly favors Arizona. Nick Rallis’s defense is trending downward, but they still match up well with what Jacksonville wants to do. And historically, this is the exact type of spot where the Cardinals thrive and the Jaguars fail. Consider this:

  • Teams coming off a loss of 17+ facing a team coming off a win of 17+ are 59% ATS the last two decades.
  • Home teams facing a road opponent who covered by 26+ last week are 40–15–1 ATS (73%).
  • Trevor Lawrence is 7–16 ATS vs teams below .500 and 10–15 ATS as a favorite.

This line isn’t about talent — it’s about perception. Jacksonville is being treated like a trustworthy road favorite, and Arizona is being treated like a bottom-five team despite outplaying opponents in multiple games recently. On paper, these teams are essentially even. DVOA has them separated by only a few spots on offense and defense. Coaching even leans slightly toward Arizona.

This is a classic case of the books overreacting to last week’s box scores. The Cardinals were unlucky. The Jaguars were fortunate. And now we get value on the home dog with the better quarterback in the matchup and a defense that can absolutely bother Lawrence.

Jaguars vs. Cardinals Pick

A perfect buy-low/sell-high spot, the better QB at home, and a matchup where Jacksonville’s weaknesses matter more than Arizona’s injuries.
