Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. BC Lions Prediction: Can Tiger-Cats Play Close with Lions on Saturday Night?

Hamilton visits BC in Week 10 of the CFL season on Saturday night, with kickoff scheduled for 7 PM ET on CBS Sports Network. The Lions are -9.5 (-112) favorites and -455 on the moneyline, while the Tiger-Cats are +9.5 (-108) underdogs and +350 to win outright. The total is set at 54.5, with the over at -108 and under at -112.

BC enters at 2-5 after finally generating some positive momentum with a 35-19 road victory over Winnipeg. Nathan Rourke and running back James Butler are both returning to the starting lineup, giving the Lions considerably more offensive firepower than they had during that upset. The personnel upgrade explains why BC is laying close to double digits despite sitting three games below .500.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. BC Lions Prediction

Hamilton is only 3-5, but the recent stretch has shown enough fight to make +9.5 appealing. With Bo Levi Mitchell unavailable, Tre Ford stepped in and guided the Tiger-Cats to a 24-23 victory over Toronto, completing 21 of 27 passes for 218 yards. Hamilton then lost 31-18 at Montreal before falling 44-20 against Calgary, but the latter score was misleading after the Tiger-Cats erased much of an 18-point deficit and pulled within five during the third quarter before the game broke open late.

The quarterback situation creates the obvious risk. Harrison Frost will make his first start of the season after replacing Ford against Calgary and completing 9 of 20 passes for 165 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He has far less experience than Rourke, but Hamilton still has established weapons around him and does not need Frost to win a quarterback duel to cash this spread. Sustaining drives, limiting turnovers and letting the defense keep the margin manageable would be enough.

Hamilton also owns a convincing result against this opponent already. The Tiger-Cats beat BC 41-27 on June 19 as Mitchell completed 15 of 18 passes for 285 yards and five touchdowns. Mitchell's absence dramatically changes the rematch, but that game still showed Hamilton's receivers and offensive system can find openings against the Lions. BC has improved defensively since then, yet asking a 2-5 team to reverse a 14-point head-to-head defeat and then win the rematch by double digits is a significant expectation.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. BC Lions Pick

Rourke's return makes BC the deserved favorite, and the Lions may ultimately get their revenge at home. The betting question is whether they should be favored by 9.5 points against a Hamilton team that has continued competing through its quarterback problems. The Tiger-Cats have already won with a backup this season, showed enough resistance against Calgary to make the final margin deceptive and now receive more than a touchdown plus a field goal. That cushion is preferable to trusting BC to produce consecutive dominant victories for the first time this season.
