Josh Allen 2024

Bills vs. Texans Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest NFL Odds for Sunday, September 13th

The Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans open the season with one of Sunday's strongest offense-versus-defense matchups. Josh Allen is trying to finally solve a Houston team that has repeatedly frustrated him on the road, while C.J. Stroud leads a Texans roster coming off another 12-win season. Check out this Bills vs. Texans prediction and best bet for Sunday, September 13.

Bills vs. Texans Prediction: Can Josh Allen, Bills Get Revenge in Houston After Last Year's Loss?

Buffalo visits Houston for a 1:00 PM ET kickoff on CBS, with the Bills favored by 1.5 and the total set at 44.5. The moneyline is essentially a pick'em, with Buffalo priced at -112 and Houston at -108.

Joe Brady begins his first season as Buffalo's head coach with Allen, reigning rushing champion James Cook III and new No. 1 receiver DJ Moore. Houston counters with one of football's most disruptive defenses, led by Will Anderson Jr., Danielle Hunter and a talented secondary.

Bills vs. Texans Recent Results

Buffalo finished 12-5 in 2025, extended its streak to seven consecutive seasons with at least 10 wins and advanced to the Divisional Round before losing 33-30 in overtime to Denver. Allen remains the centerpiece of an offense that scored 28.3 points per game last season.

Houston also went 12-5 and reached the Divisional Round, where Stroud's four-interception performance contributed to a 28-16 loss to New England. The Texans allowed only 17.3 points and 271.9 yards per game during the regular season, giving them one of the NFL's clearest defensive identities entering 2026.

Bills vs. Texans Head to Head

  • November 20, 2025: Houston Texans 23, Buffalo Bills 19
  • October 6, 2024: Houston Texans 23, Buffalo Bills 20

  • January 4, 2020: Houston Texans 22, Buffalo Bills 19 (OT)

Houston has become a legitimate problem for Allen, particularly in Texas. He is winless in four appearances in Houston, and last season the Texans sacked him eight times while forcing three turnovers in a 23-19 victory.

Bills vs. Texans Line Movement and Betting Splits

Buffalo opened around -1.5 and remains there, while the total sits at 44.5. Some broader markets opened the total closer to 45.5 before dropping a point.

Buffalo has 67% of spread bets and 64% of the handle. Moneyline support is even stronger, with 77% of bets and 85% of the money backing the Bills despite Houston's recent success in this matchup.

Bills vs. Texans Prediction

Houston's defensive front is the obvious obstacle. Anderson and Hunter can wreck a game without constant blitzing, allowing Houston to keep enough defenders in coverage to challenge Allen's preferred intermediate throws.

That formula worked perfectly last season when Houston sacked Allen eight times. Buffalo cannot simply drop back and let the Texans' edge rush dictate the game again, making Cook's role particularly important. A productive running game can slow the pass rush and create more manageable play-action opportunities.

Buffalo also has an opportunity to attack Houston's offense. Stroud is coming off a difficult postseason finish, and the Texans rebuilt portions of the offensive line during the offseason. Buffalo added Bradley Chubb to a defense that should be able to test that protection immediately.

The Texans will try to take pressure off Stroud through the running game and Nico Collins, but this is where Buffalo's defensive changes under Jim Leonhard become important. If the Bills can create enough confusion before the snap, they can force Houston into the same long-yardage situations its own defense creates so effectively.

Houston's history against Allen is difficult to ignore, which is exactly why the moneyline is preferable to laying -1.5. Four of the last five meaningful meetings have been one-possession games, and a field-goal finish would hardly be surprising.

The deciding factor is trusting Allen to finally solve the problem. Buffalo has had an entire offseason to address what went wrong in last year's matchup, and a more deliberate commitment to Cook and quicker passing should keep the Texans from turning every third down into a pass-rush showcase.

Bills vs. Texans Best Bet

Houston has earned respect in this matchup, so there is little reason to lay extra points. The Bills simply need to win, which protects against another close game decided in the final possession.

Allen remains the best individual player on the field, and Buffalo has enough offensive answers to avoid repeating last season's eight-sack performance. At essentially pick'em moneyline pricing, backing the Bills outright is the cleaner approach.
