The Jets visit the Lions at 1:00 PM ET on FOX, with Detroit favored by 6.5 and the total sitting around 48.5. Both teams enter 1-1 after suffering Week 2 losses, but they arrive there in very different ways.
Detroit continues to score at a high level despite serious defensive problems, averaging 31 points through two games. New York has been far more defense-driven under Glenn, setting up an interesting reunion against the organization where he served as defensive coordinator from 2021 through 2024.
Jets vs. Lions Recent Results
New York Jets (1-1)
New York opened with an encouraging 23-10 road win over Tennessee before falling 20-17 in overtime to Green Bay. The Jets led the Packers 17-7 deep into the fourth quarter but were hurt by 13 penalties, protection issues and an inability to finish drives once Green Bay increased the pressure on Smith.
The defense has nevertheless provided a legitimate foundation. New York has allowed only 15 points per game through two weeks, while rookie edge rusher David Bailey and Will McDonald IV give Glenn's staff multiple ways to challenge Detroit's offensive line.
Detroit Lions (1-1)
Detroit survived New Orleans 31-30 in overtime before losing 41-31 at Buffalo on Thursday Night Football. Goff threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns against the Bills, while St. Brown erupted for 142 yards and two scores.
The concern is a defense that has already surrendered 23 explosive plays through two games. Detroit has spent the extra rest following Thursday night trying to correct its coverage and tackling issues, while the offensive line will be without Ben Bartch but gets rookie tackle Blake Miller back to full participation.

Jets vs. Lions Line Movement and Betting Splits
Detroit opened around -7 before the spread slipped to -6.5. The Lions are still receiving 76% of spread bets and 77% of the handle, so the small move toward New York has occurred despite overwhelmingly more action landing on Detroit.
The total has remained relatively stable around 48 to 48.5. The Over has 59% of wagers and an extreme 98% of the tracked handle, showing how heavily the market expects Detroit's offensive strength and defensive vulnerability to create points.
Jets vs. Lions Prediction
Glenn's familiarity with Detroit creates an interesting tactical wrinkle, but familiarity only goes so far when the opponent has this many offensive answers. Goff can attack from heavy personnel, spread formations and play action, while Gibbs forces defenses to account for explosive plays out of both the backfield and the slot.
St. Brown is another difficult matchup for a Jets defense that wants to create pressure. Goff has consistently been at his best when he can identify coverage quickly and throw on rhythm, and St. Brown's ability to win inside gives Detroit a reliable answer when New York brings extra rushers.
The biggest challenge for Detroit is pass protection. Bailey and McDonald can stress an offensive line that has already dealt with early-season injuries, and Glenn knows the protection rules and tendencies of many players he practiced against for years. New York needs those pressures to turn into sacks rather than simply forcing quick completions.
Smith should also find opportunities against the Detroit secondary. The Lions have struggled badly with explosive plays, and Wilson gives New York a legitimate matchup winner on the outside. The Jets do not need to score 30 to stay competitive if they can produce several chunk plays and avoid the penalty problems that doomed them against Green Bay.
Detroit's offensive floor remains much higher. The Lions scored 31 against both New Orleans and Buffalo, and Goff threw four touchdowns against a Bills defense despite spending much of the game chasing a deficit. New York has not yet shown that its offense can consistently win that type of scoring environment.
The home setting matters as well. Detroit's defense should benefit from playing with crowd noise behind its pass rush, and the Lions have every reason to play aggressively after allowing Buffalo to take control early last Thursday.
New York can keep this competitive into the second half, but eventually the Jets need enough scoring to match Detroit possession for possession. The Lions have too many ways to attack and can create the separation needed to get beyond one touchdown.
Jets vs. Lions Best Bet
- Best Bet: Lions -6.5 (-110) Check out these best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
Detroit's defensive problems make laying points uncomfortable, but the matchup still gives the Lions the far more trustworthy offense. Goff, Gibbs and St. Brown can put New York into a game script the Jets have not yet proven they can handle.
Getting the spread below the key touchdown number is important. Detroit can win 27-20 or 30-23 and cash, while its offensive ceiling creates plenty of room for a more comfortable margin.
