5 Minute ReadJaguars vs. Bengals Prediction: Can Trevor Lawrence, Jags Overcome Lack of Success in High-Scoring Matchups?
The Jacksonville Jaguars visit the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium on Sunday afternoon with both teams trying to build on promising 2-1 starts. Cincinnati is a 2.5-point home favorite with the total sitting at 52 in one of the highest-scoring projections on the early slate.
Jacksonville arrives after its most complete performance of the season, while Cincinnati is coming off its first loss. Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow give this matchup plenty of offensive upside, but Jacksonville's improving rushing attack and Cincinnati's injuries on defense could become particularly important.
Jaguars vs. Bengals Recent Results
Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1)
Jacksonville dominated New England 35-6 in Week 3, controlling the game on both sides while Lawrence threw three touchdowns. He now has seven touchdown passes against two interceptions through three games, continuing the high-level play he established late last season.
The Jaguars have also established more balance around Lawrence. Their running backs have produced 323 yards at 4.4 yards per carry through three games, giving Liam Coen an offense that does not have to live in obvious passing situations.
Cincinnati Bengals (2-1)
Cincinnati suffered its first loss in a 30-27 divisional battle at Pittsburgh, but Burrow delivered his best individual performance of the young season. He completed 28 passes for 282 yards and three touchdowns, pushing his season totals to six touchdown passes against only one interception with a 70.9% completion rate.
The Bengals remain dangerous because Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins force defenses to defend every level of the field. The concern is whether Cincinnati can consistently create enough negative plays defensively to keep Lawrence from turning this into a possession-for-possession game.

Jaguars vs. Bengals Line Movement and Betting Splits
Cincinnati opened around -2.5 and remains there, so the spread has shown very little resistance in either direction. The total has climbed slightly from an opener around 51.5 to 52, reflecting the market's respect for two quarterbacks playing well entering Week 4.
Unlike several other games on Sunday's slate, there has not been a dramatic injury-driven repricing here. The relative stability makes the actual matchup and the value of Jacksonville getting through the key numbers of two and three more important than chasing a major market signal.
Jaguars vs. Bengals Team News and Injuries
Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville enters relatively healthy at the offensive skill positions. Jakobi Meyers practiced fully Friday after dealing with a thumb issue and carries no game designation, while offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen also progressed to full participation. Running back LeQuint Allen Jr. remained limited with a hip issue but was not given a final designation.
The bigger questions are in the secondary. Christian Braswell and Montaric Brown are both questionable, while defensive tackle Albert Regis is also questionable. Those statuses matter considerably against Burrow, Chase and Higgins.
Cincinnati Bengals
Safety Kyle Dugger is out with a quadriceps injury, while fellow safety Bryan Cook is questionable with an ankle issue. Defensive tackle B.J. Hill is also questionable with an Achilles issue, and guard Dalton Risner carries a questionable designation despite returning to full practice Friday.
Those defensive injuries are important against a Jacksonville offense that wants to establish the run before creating intermediate and explosive opportunities for Lawrence. A thinner Cincinnati back end also makes it harder to aggressively load the box.
Jaguars vs. Bengals Prediction
Lawrence has increasingly looked like a quarterback capable of winning games without everything around him being perfect. His seven touchdowns against two interceptions are encouraging, but the more important development is Jacksonville's ability to keep him out of predictable third-and-long situations.
That starts with the running game. Jacksonville has been getting efficient production on the ground, and Cincinnati's uncertainty around Hill and its safety depth could make the Jaguars difficult to fit against. If Jacksonville can consistently create second-and-5 and third-and-3 situations, Lawrence should have favorable opportunities against a defense forced to respect the run.
Burrow represents the obvious counterargument. Jacksonville just overwhelmed a struggling New England offense, but defending Burrow with Chase and Higgins is a completely different assignment. Any limitation in the Jaguars secondary could allow Cincinnati to generate explosive plays even when Jacksonville wins early downs.
The key is that Jacksonville does not need to completely stop Cincinnati to cover this number. A game played primarily within one possession suits a +2.5 underdog with an offense capable of answering scores and a quarterback playing efficient football.
FairPlay AI adds a small layer of support. Cincinnati is projected as only a 1.5-point favorite compared with the actual market price of -2.5, creating roughly one point of model value on Jacksonville. The 53%-47% projected win split also looks much closer to a toss-up than a conventional home-favorite matchup.
Cincinnati's four-game winning streak in the series deserves respect, but the three most recent games were decided by four, three and three points. With Jacksonville playing better complementary football and getting +2.5 at even money, another tight finish is enough.
Jaguars vs. Bengals Best Bet
- Best Bet: Jaguars +2.5 (+100) Check out these best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
Jacksonville has enough offensive balance to avoid becoming completely dependent on Lawrence matching Burrow throw for throw. The Bengals can win at home, but Cincinnati creating a field-goal-plus margin against this version of Jacksonville is a much tougher requirement than simply picking the outright winner.
