5 Minute ReadBills vs. Rams Prediction: Can Josh Allen, Bills Find an Upset on Monday Night Football in Potential Super Bowl Preview?
The Buffalo Bills visit the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Monday night with both teams coming off important Week 4 results. Buffalo fell to 3-1 after a 29-26 home loss to New England, while Los Angeles improved to 2-2 with a 24-20 road win over Philadelphia.
Los Angeles is a 3.5-point home favorite in a game carrying a massive 55.5 total. Buffalo's record is better, Josh Allen remains one of the league's most difficult quarterbacks to defend and the Bills are attracting overwhelming public support, but the actual money distribution tells a much more interesting story about the Rams.
Bills vs. Rams Recent Results
Buffalo Bills (3-1)
Buffalo suffered its first loss of the season in a 29-26 home defeat against New England. The Bills entered Week 4 undefeated after wins over their first three opponents, but the Patriots were able to keep the game competitive throughout and finish enough drives late to pull the upset.
Buffalo's offense remains one of the highest-ceiling units in football because Allen can create both inside and outside structure. James Cook also gives the Bills a legitimate rushing foundation, preventing defenses from simply spreading out and devoting every resource to stopping Allen's passing game.
The larger concern is a defense that has been much less consistent than the overall record suggests. Buffalo has already allowed multiple opponents to move the football efficiently, and New England became the latest team to create enough explosive plays to force Allen into a game where nearly every offensive possession mattered.
Los Angeles Rams (2-2)
Los Angeles responded to a frustrating 1-2 start by going into Philadelphia and earning a 24-20 victory. That performance was particularly encouraging because the Rams entered the matchup dealing with injuries on both sides of the ball and still found enough offense to finish the game.
Matthew Stafford now has Puka Nacua back as the centerpiece of the passing attack alongside Davante Adams, giving Sean McVay significantly more flexibility than he had when injuries thinned the receiving group earlier in the season.
The Rams have moved the football effectively for much of the opening month even when the final scores did not always reflect it. Turnovers, penalties and stalled drives hurt them during the 1-2 start, but the underlying offensive structure has remained much stronger than the record initially suggested.
Bills vs. Rams Head to Head
- December 8, 2024: Los Angeles Rams 44, Buffalo Bills 42
- September 8, 2022: Buffalo Bills 31, Los Angeles Rams 10
- September 27, 2020: Buffalo Bills 35, Los Angeles Rams 32
- October 9, 2016: Buffalo Bills 30, Los Angeles Rams 19
- December 9, 2012: St. Louis Rams 15, Buffalo Bills 12
The most recent meeting provides the most useful reference point. Los Angeles beat Buffalo 44-42 in a game where the Rams consistently found ways to attack the Bills defense and survived an enormous second-half push from Allen.
That result does not guarantee another Rams win, but the matchup again favors an offense capable of creating yards after the catch and keeping Buffalo's pass rush from dictating obvious passing situations. McVay has already shown he can construct a plan that stresses this defensive structure.

Bills vs. Rams Line Movement and Betting Splits
Los Angeles is currently laying 3.5 points, but the spread betting distribution is heavily tilted toward Buffalo. The Bills are attracting 72% of spread bets compared with only 28% on the Rams.
The money is distributed much differently. Buffalo's 72% ticket share accounts for only 53% of the spread handle, while Los Angeles has attracted 47% of the money despite receiving just 28% of the bets.
That is exactly the type of larger-average-wager profile worth paying attention to. The Rams are receiving fewer than three out of every 10 spread tickets but nearly half of all dollars wagered on the spread.
The difference is substantial when adjusting for ticket volume. Los Angeles' handle-to-ticket ratio is more than twice Buffalo's, indicating that the average wager on Rams -3.5 is significantly larger than the average wager on Bills +3.5.
That does not automatically prove professional action, but it is a classic sharp-leaning market signal. Public volume is concentrated on the recognizable underdog with Allen, while substantially larger wagers are helping keep nearly half of the money on Los Angeles.
The moneyline splits provide an interesting contrast. Buffalo has 66% of both moneyline tickets and handle at +154, while Los Angeles has only 34% at -185. The stronger Rams signal is specifically against the spread rather than a broad market rush toward Los Angeles in every market.
The total also carries heavy public interest on the over. Over 55.5 has 74% of the bets but only 56% of the handle, another example of smaller wagers concentrating on the more obvious high-scoring narrative.
Bills vs. Rams Team News and Injuries
Buffalo Bills
Buffalo has spent the opening month managing injuries throughout the secondary and defensive front. Christian Benford has dealt with a toe issue, while the defensive-line rotation has also been less than completely intact at different points during the early schedule.
Those defensive questions are particularly important against Nacua and Adams. Buffalo cannot afford to lose coverage depth against a Rams offense built around creating favorable leverage for Stafford before the snap.
Offensively, the Bills remain built around Allen and Cook. Keon Coleman gives Buffalo another size-speed option outside, while the tight ends and backs create the underneath matchups that make Allen difficult to defend when opponents devote additional resources to stopping his scrambling.
Los Angeles Rams
Nacua's return has changed the structure of the Rams offense. Stafford once again has his primary chain-moving receiver available alongside Adams, allowing McVay to move both players around the formation and force Buffalo to reveal coverage intentions.
Los Angeles has dealt with more significant attrition defensively. Aaron Donald has been unavailable because of his back issue, while the Rams have also navigated injuries in the secondary and along the defensive front.
That makes this less about expecting Los Angeles to completely stop Allen and more about whether the Rams offense can control enough of the game to keep Buffalo chasing. Against a total of 55.5, the market clearly expects both quarterbacks to have opportunities.
Bills vs. Rams Prediction
Buffalo is going to be the appealing side for many bettors simply because Allen is getting more than a field goal. That is reflected clearly in the betting splits, with nearly three-quarters of all spread tickets landing on Bills +3.5.
The more interesting question is why Los Angeles is still attracting almost half of the spread money despite such a small percentage of bets. That disparity suggests bettors making larger wagers are much more willing to lay the points with the Rams than the raw ticket count would imply.
There is also a strong football case behind that position. Buffalo's defense has been vulnerable enough that Stafford should not need an extraordinary performance to keep Los Angeles ahead of schedule.
Nacua is the matchup centerpiece. His ability to win quickly underneath allows Stafford to avoid holding the football against pressure, and his yards-after-catch ability forces Buffalo's defensive backs to tackle repeatedly in space.
Adams creates the complementary problem. Buffalo cannot consistently tilt coverage toward Nacua without giving Stafford favorable isolated matchups elsewhere. That is exactly the type of formation flexibility McVay uses to identify defensive intentions before the snap.
The Rams should also be able to force Buffalo to defend the entire width of the field. Motion, condensed formations and play action can slow the Bills' front enough to prevent Stafford from operating in obvious pressure situations.
Buffalo's counter is obvious. Allen is capable of destroying any Rams defensive advantage by extending plays, and Los Angeles cannot expect to consistently contain him with a depleted defensive front.
Cook also matters more than his reputation as a secondary piece might suggest. Buffalo is much harder to defend when Cook is producing efficient early-down runs because opponents cannot simply construct every call around Allen.
That is where game script becomes important. Los Angeles does not need to shut Buffalo down to cover -3.5. The Rams need to consistently finish their own drives and force Buffalo to play from behind.
A Los Angeles lead changes how Buffalo has to operate. Allen becomes more aggressive, the Bills increase their passing volume and the possibility of sacks, turnovers and short fields begins to rise.
The Rams also have home-field advantages that matter against a Buffalo team traveling across the country for a standalone Monday night game. Los Angeles has the opportunity to dictate personnel and tempo rather than reacting to Buffalo in Orchard Park.
The total of 55.5 further supports laying points with the favorite rather than treating 3.5 as an enormous obstacle. In a projected high-scoring game, there are more possessions available for the stronger side to create margin.
That is different from laying 3.5 in a game totaled around 38 or 40, where every field goal becomes disproportionately important. If Los Angeles reaches 30 or more points, Buffalo likely needs to produce a nearly flawless offensive game to remain inside the number.
The market split strengthens that case. Bills +3.5 is the obvious public side, yet the Rams have managed to attract 47% of the handle with just 28% of the tickets. The average Rams spread wager is therefore dramatically larger.
That should not be described as definitive proof of professional action, but it is precisely the type of split associated with sharper money concentrations. Smaller wagers are piling onto Buffalo while larger bets are much more willing to back Los Angeles.
The number also creates a useful distinction between picking the winner and betting the spread. Rams -3.5 requires Los Angeles to win by more than a field goal, but the matchup gives McVay enough offensive advantages to create that separation if Buffalo's defense continues allowing sustained drives.
The primary risk is Allen. Buffalo can cover this number almost by itself if its quarterback reaches his highest level, and the Rams defense does not have the personnel advantage to eliminate that possibility.
But Monday's wager is ultimately built around Los Angeles creating more repeatable offensive success. Stafford has Nacua and Adams, the Rams are at home, McVay has previously demonstrated a successful offensive blueprint against Buffalo and the betting market shows unusually large average wagers supporting the favorite.
Bills vs. Rams Best Bet
- Best Bet: Rams -3.5 (+100) Check out these best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
Buffalo receiving 72% of the spread tickets makes the Rams easy to overlook, but those Bills wagers account for only 53% of the money. Los Angeles has just 28% of the bets yet 47% of the handle, giving Rams -3.5 one of the clearest larger-average-wager profiles on the board.
The market evidence matches the football matchup. Stafford has Nacua and Adams available against a Buffalo defense that has already shown vulnerabilities, while McVay has enough schematic flexibility to keep the Rams offense out of predictable situations.
Allen makes Buffalo dangerous until the final possession, but Los Angeles has the offensive ceiling to force him into chase mode. With a sharp-leaning spread profile and a matchup that favors sustained Rams offense, Los Angeles -3.5 is the preferred Monday Night Football position.
