2024 Procore Championship Betting Picks, Odds, Course Preview and Prediction

After a brief weeklong break, the PGA Tour returns for the FedEx Cup Fall, and the newly named Procore Championship. The purpose of the Fall series remains murky to fans, but it is certainly of relevance to a certain group of players. These next few Fall events will determine the top-125 eligibility for the 2025 season. While the players in the top 50 of the FedEx Cup will maintain full eligibility, players ranked 51st and beyond carry over their FedEx Cup points from the regular season and will continue to accumulate points through the Fall toward their status in 2025. Additionally, the top 10 players in the FedEx Cup standings from the Fall are eligible for two Signature Events next year, allowing for the best players over these few weeks to play their way into the biggest tournaments in 2025.

The FedEx Fall opener is held in Napa, California, and boasts a new title sponsor this year, Procore, but fans may remember this event as the Fortinet Championship, Frys.com Open, or Safeway Championship. The Fall swing certainly feels a bit sleepy in its nature, yet it has historically been a very profitable endeavor for those willing to do the legwork. Let’s dive in.

Procore Championship: Course Preview

Silverado Country Club: North Course

The North Course at Silverado, designed by Robert Trent Jones, has been the host course for this event since 2015. The Jones design plays as the second-shortest par 72 on the schedule, and it generally ranks as one of the easier courses on Tour, although it is certainly capable of providing more pushback under firmer conditions. Last year, Silverado ranked 23rd out of 45 courses in overall difficulty, and every year in the last decade, it has played easier than Tour average, yet rarely in the top 10 easiest courses on Tour. The main aspect preventing Silverado from getting totally torn apart is its narrow, tree-lined fairways, and small, firm greens. Still, all four of its par fives are reachable in two shots by players of all distance levels, and nine of the par fours measure between 360 and 450 yards. Silverado's par threes still have some bite, and the quartet ranks as the first, third, fourth, and ninth-toughest holes on the course, respectively, all playing to a historic scoring average above par.

Ultimately, Silverado is a golf course that robustly emphasizes wedge play and putting, and if the fairways weren't incredibly narrow, it would be won at 25-under par every single year. Silverado features the second-most narrow fairways on the entire PGA Tour. Thus, although players are hitting a large plurality of wedges, they often have to control them out of Blue-grass rough. While this rough is non-threatening and Silverado does not feature a high missed fairway penalty, that extra added challenge of spin control out of the rough makes it that much harder to consistently get the ball close with short irons. The end result is a low driving accuracy percentage and a high greens-in-regulation percentage with a middling proximity to the hole. This week, I will primarily be looking for players who excel from 100 to 150 yards, have strong Fall swing and West Coast resumes, and also possess the ability to catch fire on Bent/Poa greens.

Tour Championship: Outright Picks

Eric Cole +4000 Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds

Eric Cole has been knocking on the door for quite some time now, and Silverado is the perfect venue for the 34-year-old to capture his first PGA Tour victory. Cole's greatest weakness is his driver, but Silverado is a golf course that allows players to club down, and there is little to be gained from long and powerful driving. We saw Sahith Theegala, a similarly shaky off-the-tee player, win with a mediocre driving performance, and that path for Cole feels highly attainable. Converse to off-the-tee prowess, Eric Cole is a phenomenal wedge player and putter, two skills that will be heavily accentuated at Silverado. Cole finished fourth at this golf course in 2023, dominating with his irons, and I expect him to improve upon that this year.

Brendon Todd +4500 Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds

There is a select number of PGA Tour courses that truly allow short, positional players to succeed, and Silverado certainly falls into that bucket. While one of the shortest players on Tour, Brendon Todd remains a rock solid wedge player and an absolutely elite putter. The three-time PGA Tour winner has recorded a ninth and a sixth in his last two appearances at Silverado, and over the past five years, he has been one of the strongest Fall swing performers in this entire field. Todd ranks top-20 in this field in good drive percentage on short courses, proximity inside 125 yards, Bent/Poa putting, putting from five to ten feet, strokes gained total in the Fall swing, and strokes gained total on the West Coast. One of the strongest overall fits at Silverado by my numbers, I’m expecting a strong performance out of Brendon Todd in Napa.
