Final round Sunday at Augusta National is here, and this is where pressure, form, and composure matter more than anything.
And that’s exactly why I’m backing Cameron Young in this head-to-head matchup over Rory McIlroy.
Young is coming into today as arguably the hottest golfer on the course. He fired a 7-under 65 yesterday, tied for the lowest round of the day, and looked completely in control from tee to green.

Masters Sunday Prediction
On the flip side, Rory went the other direction.
He shot a 1-over 73 and more importantly, looked uncomfortable. The swing wasn’t sharp, the misses were loose, and you could see the pressure starting to creep in as he let a massive lead slip away.
That’s a huge factor heading into Sunday at Augusta.
Rory now has everything to lose. The weight of the moment, the history, and the expectations are all sitting on his shoulders. We’ve seen this story before, and it’s not always gone his way in big spots.
Meanwhile, Young is playing free.
He’s chasing, he has momentum, and he’s swinging it with confidence. That’s a dangerous combination on a course like Augusta, especially when conditions are firm and putting a premium on short game and precision.
That brings us to one of the biggest edges in this matchup.
Around-the-green play.
With how firm Augusta is playing, greenside play is more important than ever. Last year, every top-seven finisher ranked inside the top 20 in strokes gained around the green. That’s not a coincidence, it’s a requirement.
And that trend favors Young.
He ranks in the 74th percentile on Tour in strokes gained around the green and has shown all week he can handle these tight lies and difficult recovery shots. That’s going to be critical today when misses inevitably happen.
Pair that with his mid-iron play, and you’ve got another edge.
A huge percentage of approach shots at Augusta come from that 150 to 175 yard range, and Young ranks 22nd on Tour in birdie or better percentage from that distance. He’s dialed in with the exact clubs you need to score here.
Then there’s the mental side.
Rory already felt the pressure yesterday and cracked. Now he has to sleep on it, come back out, and try to close with everyone chasing him. That’s not an easy spot, especially when your swing isn’t locked in.
Young is the opposite.
He’s trending up, coming off a low round, and has nothing to lose. He can stay aggressive, trust his game, and keep applying pressure.

In a one-round matchup, I’ll take the hotter player, the better current ball striker, and the guy playing with confidence over the one carrying the weight of the tournament.
