Rather than paying a short number on Scheffler, three golfers stand out based on recent opening-round scoring, current form and past success at East Lake.

Clark is the easiest player to circle after what he just did at the BMW Championship. He opened with consecutive 64s at Bellerive, grabbed control of the tournament immediately and eventually finished the job for his third victory of the season.
That was hardly his first fast start of 2026. Clark also opened the U.S. Open with a 64 before going on to win at Shinnecock Hills, and he began the Memorial with a 67 on his way to a third-place finish. When his putter catches fire early, he has repeatedly shown the ability to shoot one of the lowest rounds in an elite field.
East Lake has treated him well, too. Clark finished third here in 2023 and eighth in 2024, opening those appearances with rounds of 68 and 67. His course history is strong enough, but the bigger attraction is simply how hot he is entering Atlanta.
Clark just showed last week that he can come out Thursday and immediately separate from a playoff-caliber field. At +1800, backing him to do it again provides much better value than taking him to win the entire tournament.

Fleetwood provides the most obvious East Lake angle after winning the Tour Championship last season. He did not ease his way into that victory, either. Fleetwood fired a first-round 64 and followed it with a 63, putting himself in control before eventually finishing at 18-under.
That makes +2000 particularly interesting for Thursday. Fleetwood already knows exactly how to attack East Lake from the opening tee shot, and his smooth ball-striking profile is built for producing rounds with very few mistakes when the irons are dialed in.
His latest result was a disappointing T47 at the BMW Championship, but the larger recent stretch remains strong. Fleetwood finished T7 at the FedEx St. Jude immediately before that and T4 at The Open earlier in the summer. He also has eight top-10 finishes this season.
The defending champion does not need to rediscover last year's form for four days to cash this market. He only needs one round resembling the 64 he produced here last August. At +2000, that proven ability to start quickly at this exact course is worth backing.

Woodland offers the biggest price of the three and might have the strongest recent first-round argument. He opened last week's BMW Championship with a 64, sharing the early lead before eventually finishing T4.
That was not an isolated hot Thursday. Woodland also opened the 3M Open with a 64 on his way to a T10 finish, shot 64 in the first round of his Texas Children's Houston Open victory and began the RBC Heritage with a 65. He has repeatedly put himself near the top of leaderboards immediately this season.
The overall form is also trending upward again. Woodland followed his opening 64 at the BMW with a 65 on Friday and ultimately finished just outside the top three, securing his place in the final 30 at East Lake.
His power remains a major advantage when the driver is cooperating, and a smaller 30-man field means there are fewer players capable of jumping over him if he produces another round in the 64-to-66 range.
At +2900, Woodland does not need to be one of the favorites to win the Tour Championship. He simply needs to continue one of the clearest fast-start trends in the field and put together another low Thursday.
