Well we are finally here, NHL opening night is upon us and I am ready to dive into my favorite total of the first night of puck this year. The Chicago Blackhawks are in Pittsburgh for a clash with the mighty Penguins and I think these teams light the lamp in the first game of the season.

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Prediction
Petr Mrazek will be in net for the Blackhawks on opening night and while I am sure he did improve over the offseason in some ways, he was consistently average at-best last season and will be thrown right into the fire on opening night.
Facing Pittsburgh alone is going to be a tough challenge this season, they were a prolific scoring team last season and retain a lot of their potent super star talent like Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel and Even Malkin plus the massive addition of Erik Karlsson on the back end in the offseason has this squad looking very potent.
They have home ice in the opening contest of this 2023-2024 campaign and I expect a strong effort in front of the ever loyal home crowd that the Penguins fans always provide. This will be a tough task for Connor Bedard and Co. but I do expect a bit of jump in the boys on opening night here.
No one expects the franchise to flip the script over night but the Blackhawk faithful are very used to rallying behind a young super star and having faith that he and the young talent around him will build this team back up into a team that can take them to the promised land a few seasons down the road. Big home opener for the Pens, big franchise statement game for the Hawks, I expect a lot of pace and goals to be scored on opening night.
