Dallas Stars vs. New York Rangers Prediction: Can Artemi Panarin, Rangers Stay Hot in Madison Square Garden?

The Dallas Stars head from Boston to New York tonight to take on the New York Rangers in Madison Square Garden. The stars lost last night in a shootout to the Bruins, falling 4–3 to mark back-to-back losses against the Oilers and Bruins. Their schedule doesn’t get much easier tonight as they have to face a hot Rangers team that is in first place in their division. The Rangers lead the metropolitan division with 75 points and a 36–16–3 record. The Stars also lead their division, as they are first in the central division with 76 points and a 34-14–8 record. The Rangers are currently the hottest team in the NHL, as they have won seven games in a row and are coming off a thrilling comeback in the stadium series against the Islanders last game. What should we expect in this one?

Dallas Stars vs. New York Rangers Prediction

The stars have a bit of a scheduling nightmare in this spot. Not only have they had to play two of the best teams in the NHL in their last two games, but they just played less than 24 hours ago in Boston and now have to travel overnight and play the hottest team in the NHL in Madison Square Garden. Also, they are playing with their backup goalie tonight, as Jake Oettinger started in net yesterday trying to get the win against the Bruins. Tonight, it will be Scott Wedgewood in net. Wedgewood has a season record of 13-5–4 and is giving up 3.03 goals on average per game. His save percentage is just under 90 at 89.7%. They may also be without center Matt Duchene again tonight, as he missed the last game with a lower-body injury. This would be a big blow to the Stars' offense, as he has led the team with 10 points since they returned from the All-Star break. On the topic of injuries, the Rangers are in very good shape. They have virtually no injuries to key players, and they’re hitting their stride since returning from the All-Star break. The Rangers have not lost since returning from the All-Star break (6-0), and they are led by Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox, who both have eight points since returning from the break. Chris Kreider has five goals and has led the team in the scoring department since the break as well. Since this is not a back-to-back for the Rangers, they will be starting their first pick Igor Shesterkin. Shesterkin has had a very good season in net, as he has a 22–13 record and has allowed just 2.8 goals on average per game. He has a save percentage of just over 90 at 90.1%, and he also has a shutout on the season. The former Vezina winner allowed five goals in the stadium series win against the Islanders, but it was still enough to win thanks to the Rangers being hot offensively. While Shesterkin has had some ups and downs this season, he has done his best work at home, where he will be tonight. This is a very tough scheduling spot for the Stars, as they are playing on a back-to-back against two very good teams, and are starting their backup goalie tonight. They may also be down their hottest offensive player once again. The Rangers are riding hot momentum, and we are getting a pretty good line on them to stay hot in this game. Take the Rangers at home tonight.
