The New York Islanders will head on the road to face the Pittsburgh Penguins after a crushing defeat in the NHL Stadium Series this weekend. Can Matthew Barzal and the Isles bounce back in Pittsburgh tonight? JT Miller analyzes these opposite trending teams and provides his best bet for Islanders vs. Penguins.

New York Islanders vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Prediction: Can Matthew Barzal, Isles Upset Penguins?

The second game we are diving into takes us to PPG Paints Arena in the Steel City as the Pittsburgh Penguins (24-21-7) host the New York Islanders (22-18-14) for their third meeting of the year. The Isles have taken three of the last five in the series but the Pens have taken both so far this season and will look to improve to 3-0 here.

New York Islanders vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Prediction

I think we have a live dog here in the Islanders tonight. New York has gone 3-3-3 under new head coach Patrick Roy, and while that's not spectacular, I think they are trending up. After three straight losses including the Stadium Series game against their rivals on Sunday (they blew a lead to lose 5-6 in overtime to the Rags), I think the boys should be fired up today. Bo Horvat, Sebastian Aho, Matthew Barzal and co. should be ready to go tonight. Ilya Sorokin has been finding his way into form, and I expect that trend to continue. He is a sneaky elite netminder in my opinion, and I see positive regression coming his way, not negative.

I do not know what it is with the Pens this year; they signed defensemen Erik Karlsson in the offseason to support the star cast of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang, but the team has struggled beyond belief. They look like they are missing something, and I don't know if they can find it in time for the playoffs. I like the team that I think is trending in the right direction here at a great price.
