This one should be a good one. We have been blessed with a loaded hockey slate this week and we have an excellent 11 game slate to choose from today. To kick things off, we are heading to the Motor City as the Detroit Red Wings (29-20-6) host the Colorado Avalanche (35-18-4) in a game that should see the lamp lit often.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Detroit Red Wings Prediction
Colorado is elite, there is no other way to put it. I see them winning this game but I think I have to go with the total here in this one. Colorado has won five straight head-to-head and winning another one would not shock me but the Red Wings have to be fired up on home ice here.
Detroit is coming off of back-to-back wins and they have scored four plus goals in four of their last five games with the one game they did not get against potential Vezina Trophy winner Thatcher Demko. Detroit is the sixth best offensive team in the league overall sporting a 3.45 GPG average that improves on home ice at 3.61 GPG.
Being on home ice here, I expect a "protect our house" type of effort from Nathan MacKinnon and Co. but they will not do that without scoring. Colorado scores slightly less on the road (still 3.17 GPG) but they have the second most potent offensive unit in the league sporting a 3.68 GPG average overall. They have scored 16 goals in their last four games and have won three of their last four. The only way this one goes under is if puck luck hates us.
