Washington Capitals vs. Winnipeg Jets Prediction: Can Alexander Ovechkin, Capitals Start Hot Against Jets?

This second play we are diving into is a bit cheeky and probably not the most eye catching play on the board but once you look at the numbers a bit, I think it is interesting. The Washington Capitals (30-23-9) are heading up north for a clash with the Winnipeg Jets (40-18-5) at the Canada Life Centre in Manitoba.

Washington Capitals vs. Winnipeg Jets Prediction

Coming down the stretch some of these first periods will definitely be played tighter than they were earlier in the season with teams trying to get into playoff form but in other scenarios, teams pushing for a playoff spot and teams with momentum are going to come out real hot. Washington is pushing here late and the squad is really putting things together. Alexander Ovechkin and the boys are hitting their stride at the right time of the season and I would not want to play this team in the playoffs right now.

On the flip side, while Winnipeg plays some of the best defensive hockey in the league and Connor Hellebuyck is one of the stronger net minders in the league, I expect some pace here early. The Jets are back on home ice after getting blanked by Vancouver in a 5-0 loss Saturday and will be looking to rebound here. Washington has really been setting the tone early in games and they win a lot when they score first so both squads know getting the first goal will be important. Washington is 7-3 for their last ten first period o1.5s and 9-1 across their last ten games for the GIFT.
