Washington Capitals vs. Calgary Flames Prediction
The Capitals continue their road trip after beating the Seattle Kraken and then the Vancouver Canucks 2-1. Charlie Lindgren in goal for the Capitals has gone 4-1-1 sine starting and although the Capitals had a rough start this season, they've bounced back well against some tough opponents. They are also now one spot away from the wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Picking up TJ Oshie at the deadline, who registered his 1,000th NHL career points against Vancouver has been a great addition to the Capitals. Alexander Ovechkin is returning to his regular self as well, while scoring ten goals in 19 games. The Flames have their fair share of talent sold moving Christopher Tanev, Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin. Six points out of a playoff berth, they were dealt three straight losses after the trade deadline.
Since starting goal keeper Jacob Markstrom is sidelined with an injury, 22 year old Dustin Wolf has stepped up and shut the door for two straight victories against the Vegas Golden Knights and the Montreal Canadiens. The Flames are slightly better in expected even strength goals this season but in the last ten games it's been the Capitals who have the edge.
The Flames have lost each of their last seven games as Monday favorites and have failed to cover the puck-line in their last 12 games against metropolitan division teams. The Capitals have won six of their last seven games as underdogs against the Flames. Additionally, Capitals have covered the puck-line in seven of their last eight visits to the Salddledome in Calgary. In the last head to head in Washington, Capitals won in a shootout. This exact fixture last season the Capitals won 5-4 in Calgary.
We still have to obviously give some benefit of the doubt to Flames being at home but since watching the Capitals shutout the Boston Bruins, they've assembled a squad who's gearing up for another playoff run.
