The Washington Capitals are heading Buffalo for a clash with the Sabres tonight. Can Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals light the lamp? JT Miller answers.

Washington Capitals vs. Buffalo Sabres Prediction: Can Alex Ovechkin, Capitals Light the Lamp?

Back to the ice for one of the last big slates of the regular season here tonight. To kick things off, I want to dive into one of the early games and we head to Buffalo, New York, to do it. The Washington Capitals (37-30-11) are heading to the KeyBank Center for a clash with the Buffalo Sabres (37-37-5) and I expect this one to see the lamp lit often.

Washington Capitals vs. Buffalo Sabres Prediction

This is not a total that jumped off the board for me initially but I will take this one based on history and my gut. Not sure why but when these two squads meet the games just fly over, last five head-to-head: 6-2, 4-3, 4-3, 5-,4 7-4. Now coming down the stretch here Washington will be desperately trying to hang on to the last wild card spot and while it appears Buffalo does not really have motivation here, they can play the spoiler.

Alex Ovechkin has really turned it on down the stretch and just bagged his 18th 30 goal season in an effort to propel his team into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Capitals have lost four of their last five but are coming off a massive victory over the Red Wings, gotta keep that coming.

Obviously a tight game can be expected with one squad trying to stay on the playoff path but on the flip side Buffalo has nothing to lose and scored six last time they played the Caps. Neither squad has gone over in their last three games so I think they are due, like I said this is nothing crazy for me but I'll trust my gut and the matchup history.
