The 2025 Belmont Stakes is the third and final leg of the Triple Crown, which will be hosted at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York on Saturday. Nicknamed the "Test of the Champion", eight Thoroughbred horses will race along a 1.25 mile track with a $2 million purse at stake during the 157th running of the Belmont Stakes.
Sovereignty and Journalism won the first two Triple Crown races at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Journalism was the favorite at both tracks but posted a runner-up finish to Sovereignty (+900) in wet, muddy conditions at Churchill Downs. Dry conditions in Baltimore led to Journalism's late burst at the finish line, cashing as the betting favorite at +110 odds.
Oddsmakers slightly favor Sovereignty at Saratoga this weekend. He's currently +162 on the moneyline, with Journalism close behind at +200 odds. Baeza is +350, before a big drop off to Rodriguez at +1200 odds.

Journalism has been steady at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Now, he enters the third jewel of the Triple Crown with a bit of value due to Sovereignty's presence in this field.
The late push by Sovereignty on a muddy track at Churchill Downs has bumped Journalism down from being the betting favorite at the Belmont Stakes. News of Sovereignty training at Saratoga since winning the Kentucky Derby is likely another piece of information that has shortened his price ahead of Race 13 on Saturday. He did not compete at Pimlico during Journalism's win at the Preakness Stakes.
When Journalism won the Preakness, he closed at +110 odds. Now, we're getting +200 odds on the most physically imposing and proven Thoroughbred at Saratoga.
Sovereignty didn't show the first time he ran at Saratoga, falling outside the top-three with a fourth-place finish. Saratoga, unlike Belmont Park, is a 1.25 mile track, shorter than the customary 1.50 miles ran at the home location in Elmont, New York. It's still a longer race track than Churchill Downs and Pimlico.
We've watched Sovereignty and Journalism both mount late comeback wins during the first two Triple Crown races. Ultimately, I predict we'll see Journalism be more prepared for a potential muddy track on Saturday. He'll either grab the lead before the final turn or surge late again to upset Sovereignty and the rest of the field in a revenge spot at Saratoga Race Course.
