Three recommended wagers for Tuesday's card at Fort Erie from John DaSilva:
RACE 2 – Pick: #1 REBEL LIONESS (4-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG
After being a vet scratch in a turf race locally on June 15, Rebel Lioness came back to run on turf on June 30 and frankly, she was awful as she tired to finish last. But I suspect that race was more for conditioning and now owner/trainer Richard Davis has cranked up the veteran to win at a decent price. For this race she goes turf to dirt and returns to her preferred distance as she has 4 of her 7 career victories at this distance. She also drew the rail and goes from open company claimers to a non-winner of two races in 2020. She has one victory in January and the other horse in the field with a victory this year is morning line favorite Classy Scarlett. The rest of the field has two victories or less in their career at this distance. The price is right, and we suspect at post time her odds will drift higher than her morning line.
RACE 3 – Pick: #8 SILENT CHARITY (6-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG
Trainer intent is often overlooked when handicapping. That often happens when a trainer has an uncoupled entry in a race. The public likes to gravitate to one horse while ignoring the other. Trainer Julie Mathes has that situation here. Stormy Suzie broke her maiden by a head two starts back going five furlongs in her turf debut. She then stretched out to seven furlongs and tired to third. She is the 3-1 second choice here behind 9-5 favorite Perfect Mine. But Mathes’ other entrant looks to be a huge overlay. Silent Charity makes her first start for Mathes after tiring while going longer in her turf debut. She cuts back in distance and veteran Helen Vanek picks up the mount. She has shown an ability to stalk the pace over the Tapeta at Woodbine so if she can replicate that running style on turf, she will upset at a generous price.
RACE 5 – Pick: #7 HUSH BUFFY (12-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG
Stretches out for return to Fort Erie after running evenly to finish fifth at Woodbine in starter on turf when making first start since January. She defeated open company claimers in October at Woodbine when making her previous start on turf. This race is for horses that have not won in 2020 or non-winners of four lifetime. She qualifies for this spot due to her 0 for 2 record in 2020. In her career she has five career victories. She is 1 for 4 on turf with her other two grass races being fourth place finishes.
