John DaSilva starts the week with four picks at Del Mar on Monday
ANALYSIS

Oddschecker's lead racing analyst John DaSilva previews Monday's meet at Del Mar.

RACE 6 – Pick #11 Worthy Turf (6-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

Lost all chance last out when he hopped at the start in starter optional claimer at this distance. Returns to conditioned claiming ranks and he is reunited with Prat, who was aboard two back when he won as the favorite at this distance and price. Prat wnd at 26% with riding for Peter Miller. Despite an outside post position, Prat will keep her outside in a nice stalking position and take over the lead at the top of the stretch and go on to victory.

RACE 8 – Pick #2 King of Speed (4-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

Gets needed class relief after tiring in the Grade 3 American Stakes. In her previous start she had the lead before tiring to fourth at this distance and level with Mike Smith aboard. But that was coming off a two month and returning to route in second start of the year. We won’t hold that race against her as we expect improvement versus these, especially if she rates mid pack while saving ground and wins like she did in the 2018 Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes.

RACE 9 – Pick #6 A Melis (7/2 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

Drew off to an impressive maiden victory at Los Alamitos while going shorter when adding blinkers for her second career start. Drayden Van Dyke picked up the mount that day and returns to make it two in a row here. Morning line favorite Li’l Grazen drew the rail and has every right to win here. But she has a bad case of seconditis, as she had the lead in the stretch and finished second by a head in her last two starts.  She has finished second in four of her last eight starts,

RACE 10 – Pick #4 Tsunami Spring (8-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

Makes local and route debut after coming off the pace to finish fourth, but only beaten a half-length, when making career debut versus state breds at Golden Gate in June. Juan Hernandez, perenially the leading jockey at Golden Gate who has switched his tack to ride the Southern California circuit regularly, picks up the mount for Golden Gate based Andy Mathis, who is making his seasonal debut here. Together they win at a 25% clip. Their last win together came at Golden Gate on June 6th, in an allowance race with Nardini.
