Monday Racing Picks: Lone Star

John DaSilva previews Monday's meet at Lone Star and recommends three wagers to start your week in the money! 

Race 5 – Pick #10 Morhawk (6-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

Raced closer to the pace than usual when cutting back to this distance while coming off a three month layoff. Had a wide trip and tired while being claimed by Karl Broberg, who wins at 24% with horses first start off the claim. He was given time off and comes back at the same level of last start.  There is plenty of speed in this race that he should be able to take advantage of and get up in time for the victory. He closed well to be third versus conditioned claimers three back with Valdez-Jimenez aboard, who just happens to regain the mount here.

Race 8 – Pick #9 Matrooh (3-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

Winner of the 2015 Grade 3 Bold Ruler drops in class for return to turf and first start since tiring to third at Oaklawn in April. He finished with good energy at Indiana Grand in October 2019 when making last start on grass. Usually he is on or close to the pace. But in his three US starts on turf he showed an ability to come off the pace. He has done that in his three starts on turf in the US. Diodoro wins at 18% with horses going dirt to turf. He also wins at 36% when using Ramon Vazquez ride, who picks up the mount here. 

Race 9 – Pick #1 Darylslittlediablo (4-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

Comes in with a bullet work and goes turf to dirt while cutting back to sprint after having the lead and finishing second at Sam Houston in March.  He drew the rail and gets positive jockey switch to Eramia. He finished in the money in both starts in dirt sprint since he was gelded in June 2019. There is enough pace for him to close into versus these.
