Toluca hosts Seattle in Phase One of the 2026 Leagues Cup on Wednesday, August 5, with kickoff scheduled for 10 PM ET on Apple TV, FS1 and UniMás. The matchup features the reigning Concacaf Champions Cup winner against the defending Leagues Cup champion, but the clubs enter in dramatically different positions. Toluca vs. Seattle Sounders Prediction
Toluca improved to 2-1-0 in Liga MX with a 3-1 victory over Necaxa, responding after consecutive defeats against Pumas and Cruz Azul. Iván López and Everardo López scored in the rebound performance, while Alexis Vega enters Leagues Cup with two goals through four appearances this year. Toluca will be without injured striker Paulinho, but Vega, Jorge Díaz and Jesús Gallardo still give Antonio Mohamed enough quality and width to consistently attack Seattle’s back line.
Seattle’s 2-1 defeat against Portland extended its losing streak to six matches despite Kalani Kossa-Rienzi scoring the opening goal. The Sounders are ninth in the Western Conference at 7-7-3, and their offensive production has been limited by injuries to Cristian Roldan, Jordan Morris and Pedro de la Vega. Paul Rothrock leads the team with only five league goals, while Jesús Ferreira has scored twice and Albert Rusnák has three goals with five assists.
This is the first competitive meeting between Toluca and Seattle. The Sounders were outstanding during their unbeaten 2025 Leagues Cup run, outscoring six opponents 16-2 before defeating Inter Miami 3-0 in the final, but their current lineup is considerably less threatening. Toluca has won five trophies since Mohamed took control in December 2024, including consecutive Liga MX championships and the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.
Seattle’s defensive experience can keep the match organized initially, but its inability to generate sustained pressure should eventually produce a one-sided territorial battle. Toluca can push its fullbacks forward, keep Seattle pinned behind the ball and create repeated opportunities through Vega’s movement from the left. The Sounders’ current attack lacks the personnel required to punish that aggressive approach consistently.

Toluca should break through before halftime and add another goal once Seattle is forced to abandon its defensive shape.
