Inter Miami hosts Monterrey in Phase One of the Leagues Cup on Saturday night, with kickoff scheduled for 8 PM ET on Apple TV. Miami is a -110 moneyline favorite, the draw is priced at +320 and Monterrey enters at +220. Miami already owns three points after its tournament opener, while Monterrey is searching for its first victory.
The central storyline changed dramatically Saturday with Messi ruled out following the death of his father, Jorge, in Argentina. Messi had scored twice and assisted another goal in Miami’s 4-2 victory over Atlético de San Luis on Wednesday, making his absence an enormous attacking loss. Luis Suárez also remains unavailable because of his Leagues Cup suspension, while Germán Berterame’s status is uncertain after entering concussion protocol.

Inter Miami vs. Monterrey Prediction
Miami still enters with significantly more momentum than the circumstances might suggest. The Herons are unbeaten across their past five matches with four victories and one draw, and they have lost only once since Guillermo Hoyos took over in April. Telasco Segovia scored in the opener, Noah Allen has produced one goal and four assists over his past two competitive appearances and midfielders Rodrigo De Paul and Casemiro give Miami enough technical quality to control possession even without Messi.
Monterrey has been far less convincing, going 2-3 across its past five matches and opening Leagues Cup with a 2-1 defeat against Orlando City. Hugo Cuypers scored his first goal for Rayados in that loss, while Lucas Ocampos has been directly involved in six goals across Monterrey’s past four competitive matches. The attacking talent is legitimate, but Monterrey has not yet consistently converted it into complete performances under Matías Almeyda.
History favors the Mexican side, which defeated Miami in both legs of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals and advanced 5-2 on aggregate. The current Miami roster is considerably different, however, and the Herons have developed an impressive Leagues Cup record against Liga MX opposition. Even without Messi, players such as De Paul, Casemiro, Segovia and potentially Berterame give Miami enough experience and attacking quality to avoid becoming dependent on one creator.

Messi’s absence turns what otherwise could have been a much shorter Miami price into nearly a pick’em. That creates risk, particularly with Suárez also unavailable, but it also creates value on a team playing at home, carrying superior recent form and facing a Monterrey side that already dropped its opener.
Miami does not need to replace Messi individually. It needs De Paul and Casemiro to control midfield, Segovia to continue creating in the final third and the supporting attackers to collectively produce enough chances. At -110, the price is reasonable for that combination to deliver another important home victory.
