Columbus Crew host Pumas UNAM in their third and final match of Leagues Cup Phase One on Tuesday, August 11, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 PM ET at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field. The match will stream on Apple TV.
Columbus is a -175 favorite to win in regulation, Pumas is +410 and the draw is +320. The Crew have opened Phase One with consecutive regulation victories, making this another opportunity to strengthen their position in the MLS table before the knockout field is finalized.
The full-game price accurately reflects the gap in form, but -175 requires a significant investment on a Columbus side facing another Liga MX opponent. There is a more attractive way to approach the favorite.
Columbus has consistently established its attacking rhythm before halftime during this tournament, while Pumas has already shown vulnerability late in opening halves. Columbus Crew vs. Pumas UNAM Prediction
The Crew opened Leagues Cup with a 3-1 victory against Atlas. Columbus conceded first but found its breakthrough before the interval, with Sean Zawadzki scoring in first-half stoppage time before the attack took over after halftime. Three days later against Pachuca, Columbus was even more aggressive from the opening whistle. Bryan Méndez struck in the 19th minute and Dániel Gazdag added another in first-half stoppage time as the Crew built the foundation for a 2-1 victory.
Pumas has not been able to match that production. Cincinnati beat Pumas 2-0 on August 7, with Pavel Bucha breaking through in first-half stoppage time before Mboma Dem added the second goal in the 90th minute. That result left Pumas under pressure entering its final Phase One fixture and demonstrated how long stretches without attacking production can eventually turn into pressure around its own penalty area.
Columbus should again have the territorial advantage at home. The Crew's ability to commit numbers forward, generate pressure through midfield and produce goals from multiple areas makes them difficult to simply contain for 45 minutes. Pumas may have greater urgency because of its Phase One position, but that can create an additional problem if the Liga MX side begins chasing the match too aggressively. Columbus does not need a chaotic end-to-end game to create first-half opportunities.
