Portland hosts Tijuana on Thursday with the Timbers priced at -120, Tijuana at +250 and the draw at +295. Portland enters its Phase One finale needing a regulation victory, and potentially help through the MLS table and goal differential, to keep its quarterfinal hopes alive.
The Timbers opened Leagues Cup with one of the strongest attacking performances of the tournament, crushing Puebla 5-2 at Providence Park. Cole Bassett and Ariel Lassiter each scored twice, while David Da Costa added a goal and two assists as Portland built a 4-1 halftime lead.

That momentum disappeared against a much stronger Club América side. Portland lost 3-1 despite Kristoffer Velde equalizing in the 19th minute, with América pulling away through two second-half goals. The defeat came against one of Liga MX’s strongest teams rather than an opponent comparable to Tijuana.
Tijuana has struggled throughout Phase One. Xolos opened with a 2-0 loss to Austin FC before falling 1-0 against San Diego FC, leaving them without a goal through two tournament matches. They now travel to Providence Park with their knockout chances effectively gone.
Home field has already mattered for Portland in this tournament. The Timbers scored five times against Puebla at Providence Park and now return there for a must-win finale against a Tijuana side that has been shut out by two MLS opponents. Portland has considerably more incentive to push for three points from the opening whistle.
