Marseille has been one of the stronger preseason teams, going 4-1 across five matches. Bruno Génésio’s side beat Yamoussoukro 3-0, Nîmes 2-1 and Al-Shahaniya 3-0 before producing an impressive 3-1 victory over Athletic Club, with the lone defeat coming 3-0 against Nice.

Marseille vs. Atletico Madrid Prediction
The Athletic performance was particularly encouraging offensively. Marseille played with more intensity and speed than a strong La Liga opponent, creating enough chances that the 3-1 score could have been even wider. Igor Paixão was especially dangerous, while the attack has continued producing despite the summer departures of Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Atletico’s preseason has been far less stable. Diego Simeone’s team opened with a 4-1 victory over Getafe but then lost 2-1 to Manchester United and 3-1 to Manchester City. Atletico has been working without its complete first-team group for much of the summer, although Julián Álvarez has returned to training and Kang-In Lee is now being integrated into the attack.
Those results have produced six goals for Atletico across three games but also six conceded. Alexander Sørloth is unavailable through injury, yet Atletico still has enough attacking quality through players such as Álvarez, Ademola Lookman, Álex Baena and Kang-In Lee to threaten a Marseille defense that will also be pushed by the quality of its opponent.
The friendly setting creates additional appeal for goals. Both clubs are approaching competitive action, but substitutions and preseason defensive combinations can create openings late in matches. Marseille has scored three goals in three of its five summer games, while Atletico’s last three friendlies have all reached at least three combined goals.
