Mia Fishel has become an increasingly important part of that improvement, scoring again against Angel City to move into second on the team in goals. Seattle has also received goals from 11 different players this season, giving the Reign enough attacking variety to continue producing even with Jess Fishlock sidelined by a leg injury.
Chicago comes to Seattle in a much different position. The Stars have not won since beating Utah 3-2 on July 5 and most recently played to a 0-0 draw against Bay FC. They also fired head coach Martin Sjögren this week, with Karina Báez taking over on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.
There is some reason for caution because Chicago has historically played Seattle competitively. The Stars own a 12-10-9 advantage in the all-time series, and last year's meeting at Lumen Field finished 3-3 after Chicago erased a three-goal deficit late. The current versions of these teams, however, are trending in opposite directions.
