Arsenal enters at +150, Manchester City is +160 and the draw is priced at +235, making this essentially a pick'em between last season's Premier League champion and FA Cup winner. The traditional curtain-raiser will air on ESPN, with both clubs getting their final competitive test before the Premier League begins next weekend.
Arsenal's preseason has been anything but settled. The Gunners opened with a 4-1 win over Girona before losing 3-1 to Real Betis and 3-2 to Borussia Dortmund, then closed preparations with a 1-1 draw against Como before winning on penalties. Every Arsenal preseason match has therefore featured a goal from both teams.

Manchester City's summer has followed the same scoring pattern. Enzo Maresca's side drew Inter 1-1 before losing the shootout, then beat the K-League All Stars 3-1 and Atletico Madrid 3-1. City has scored seven goals across three friendlies but has also conceded in every match.
The World Cup makes both lineups more difficult to evaluate. Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice only recently returned to Arsenal training and have yet to play preseason minutes, while William Saliba and Jurrien Timber are sidelined. City has similar uncertainty, with Erling Haaland only recently returning after his post-World Cup break and Rodri unavailable.
Even without every star operating at full fitness, there is still considerable attacking quality on both sides. Arsenal has Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and several dangerous wide options, while City can lean on Phil Foden, Antoine Semenyo and a red-hot Omar Marmoush, who scored twice against Atletico. Arsenal's defensive absences only improve City's chances of finding the net.
The teams also scored against each other in both Premier League meetings last season. Arsenal rescued a 1-1 draw in September before City won the April rematch 2-1, with Erling Haaland scoring the eventual winner. These sides know each other extremely well, and neither has shown much evidence this summer that it is ready to consistently shut down elite opposition.

The Community Shield comes too early to fully trust either team to be defensively polished, particularly after the World Cup shortened the normal preparation window.
