Fenerbahçe and Lyon are separated by very little in the betting market for the first leg, with the Turkish side +100 at home, the draw +255 and Lyon +265. The match will air on CBS Sports Golazo Network and stream on Paramount+, with the winner of the two-leg playoff advancing to the Champions League league phase.
Fenerbahçe has taken a much steadier route through qualifying. It beat Górnik Zabrze 1-0 at home and drew 1-1 away before controlling Sturm Graz 2-0 in Istanbul and 1-0 in Austria. That leaves Fenerbahçe unbeaten through four Champions League qualifiers with three wins, only one goal conceded and two home victories without allowing a goal.

Fenerbahce vs. Lyon Prediction
The one concern is a poor domestic opener on Saturday, when Fenerbahçe lost 2-1 at Gençlerbirliği despite Anderson Talisca scoring again. European form has been considerably stronger, however, and Talisca has found the net in all four Champions League qualifying matches. Marco Asensio, Mason Greenwood, Kerem Aktürkoğlu and N'Golo Kanté give Fenerbahçe considerably more proven quality around him, while new signing Romelu Lukaku has also been registered for the tie.
Lyon's path was far less comfortable. Paulo Fonseca's side lost 2-1 away to Sparta Prague in the first leg of the previous round and entered the return match needing a comeback. Lyon responded with an excellent 3-0 victory behind goals from Ernest Nuamah, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Tyler Morton, but Sparta played much of the match with 10 men after Adam Ševinský was sent off in the first half.
That second leg showed the ceiling of Lyon's attack, particularly with Loïs Openda, Nuamah and Malick Fofana providing pace in the front line. It also does not completely erase what happened in Prague. Lyon was vulnerable away from home in the first leg, and another difficult road environment awaits in Istanbul before the French club gets the advantage of hosting the return match on August 26.
Home field matters even more in this format because Fenerbahçe knows this is its opportunity to create an aggregate advantage. Lyon can afford to approach the first leg somewhat more cautiously knowing the decisive match comes at Groupama Stadium, while Fenerbahçe should be much more motivated to push for a win in front of its home crowd. The Turkish side has already shown that approach with clean-sheet home victories in each of the previous two rounds.

There is enough attacking quality on both sides to make this a competitive matchup, and Lyon's 3-0 response against Sparta prevents the visitors from being dismissed. At even money, however, Fenerbahçe does not need to cover a handicap or build a multi-goal advantage. Its stronger qualifying consistency, perfect home record in the competition and the importance of taking something substantial to France make the home moneyline the preferred side.
