Miami settled for a 2-2 draw at Philadelphia on Wednesday after twice taking the lead. Messi remains the centerpiece, but Luis Suárez and Telasco Segovia give Miami multiple ways to punish a defense once the game begins to stretch. The problem has been keeping opponents out, with Miami conceding twice against Philadelphia and four times at Nashville. Returning home against Toronto presents a much better matchup for regaining control.
Toronto has shown more fight recently. It beat New England 2-1 last weekend and then rallied for a 3-3 draw against Charlotte on Wednesday, with Dániel Sallói and Niklas Dorsch among the scorers. Toronto still sits well below Miami in the standings, but six goals across those two games make it dangerous enough that the hosts cannot simply expect the result to arrive.
The first meeting demonstrated the talent gap. Miami went to Toronto on May 9 and won 4-2, producing enough attacking chances to create separation even away from home. Toronto has historically struggled badly against Miami as well, entering 2026 with only two wins in its first 12 regular-season meetings with the club.
The schedule also favors Miami despite both teams playing Wednesday. Toronto now has to travel from Canada to South Florida after an exhausting six-goal game, while Miami returns home after playing in Philadelphia.
