It has won four of its last five matches across all competitions, beating Puebla 2-0, Columbus Crew 2-0, Juárez 2-1 and Atlético San Luis 3-0. That run has included three clean sheets, but the attacking production has been consistent enough that América does not need a perfect defensive night to advance.

Monterrey's recent games have been much more volatile. Four of its last five have gone over 2.5 goals and four have seen both teams score, including Leagues Cup victories of 2-1 over Chicago Fire and Nashville. Monterrey also demolished Juárez 6-1 before allowing three goals in its most recent Liga MX loss to Atlético San Luis.
That creates a matchup where América's recent clean sheets may be more difficult to maintain. Monterrey has enough attacking talent to create chances even when it does not control possession, and an elimination game should eventually force both sides to become more aggressive. There is no second leg available to fix a conservative first performance.
The recent head-to-head history has been tighter than the offensive numbers might suggest. América won the last meeting 1-0 in February and also beat Monterrey 2-1 last November, while Monterrey won 2-0 three days earlier in the same postseason matchup. Only two of the last five meetings have produced both teams scoring and Over 2.5 goals.
Wednesday's situation is different from most of those league meetings.
