This line has shifted from a virtual pick’em at DraftKings to Tiafoe being a slight -115 favorite, and we agree with this line movement. There have been two meetings between these players at Wimbledon (2018, 2021), and Khachanov has won six of the eight sets. However, Tiafoe is playing some of the best tennis of his career and has recently stepped up on the big stage. The American has won the first set in his previous eight Grand Slam matches. In addition, when the competition has gotten tougher, he has raised his game, covering the game spread in each of his previous four ATP Third Round matches. Tiafoe is on a seven-match winning streak, while Khachanov’s two losses so far in 2023 were in straight sets (to Daniil Medvedev and Jack Draper). Even before Taylor Fritz was ousted in his last match, there was a widespread belief that Sebastian Korda presented the most upside of all the young Americans in the Australian Open field. He will have no easy task against the No. 2 favorite in this major, Daniil Medvedev, but he did push him to three sets at the Paris Masters on an indoor hard surface in November of 2021.
