4 Minute ReadJakub Mensik vs. Alexander Zverev Prediction: Will Zverev Roll Over Mensik at ATP Madrid Round of 16 on Tuesday Night?
Alexander Zverev meets Jakub Mensik in the Madrid Open Round of 16, with Zverev installed as a -220 favorite and Mensik coming back at +180. It is a compelling matchup because Mensik has been one of the breakout young players on tour over the last year, but now he draws one of the most proven clay-court forces left in the field.
The setup leans toward experience versus momentum. Zverev is a two-time Madrid champion and one of the best clay-court players of his generation, while Mensik arrives with recent strong form and growing confidence after another impressive week. The younger Czech absolutely has upside, but this is a very different ask than simply riding form through the early rounds.

Jakub Mensik vs. Alexander Zverev Prediction
Zverev’s path to this stage has been solid if not totally stress-free. He beat Corentin Atmane in the Round of 32 and, according to ATP coverage, extended his winning streak in Madrid to nine straight matches, which tells you how comfortable he still is in these conditions. That matters a lot here because Madrid is one of the clay events where Zverev’s serve and first-strike baseline game tend to play especially well.
Mensik, though, has earned his place in this match. He beat Martin Damm 6-3, 6-4 and then followed it with a high-quality win over Karen Khachanov, closing that match in straight sets after surviving major pressure late. ATP’s recap highlighted that Mensik saved multiple set points in the second set against Khachanov, which is exactly the kind of composure you want to see from a younger player trying to spring another upset.
Still, this feels like a spot where Zverev’s clay pedigree should show over time. Mensik has been playing excellent tennis, but Zverev’s ability to control baseline patterns, protect his serve, and stay patient in longer exchanges is a different level on this surface. On hard court, this might feel more open. On clay in Madrid, the edge swings much more clearly toward the veteran.

Mensik is talented enough to make stretches of this competitive, but Zverev’s track record in Madrid and overall clay strength make him the right side to control the match and close it in straight sets.
