Alex de Minaur vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction
De Minaur enters Washington with a 27-14 record and a title in Rotterdam earlier this season. The Australian reached the Wimbledon fourth round after beating Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 and Zachary Svajda 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, but Flavio Cobolli ended his run with a convincing 7-5, 7-6(4), 6-3 victory. De Minaur also lost 7-5, 6-3 to Brandon Nakashima in the Queen’s Club quarterfinals, leaving him without a win over an elite opponent since the spring.
Tsitsipas endured an uneven start to 2026 but arrives in Washington with his strongest momentum of the season. He captured the Gstaad title earlier this month by winning four three-set matches, including a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 semifinal victory over Aleksandr Shevchenko and a 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-3 win over Raphael Collignon in the final. The championship ended a title drought of nearly 17 months and moved Tsitsipas 34 places up the rankings to No. 51.
The Greek also showed flashes of improvement before that title run. Tsitsipas opened Wimbledon with a decisive victory over Hugo Gaston before losing 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to Novak Djokovic in the second round. More importantly for this matchup, he defeated De Minaur 6-3, 7-6(3) on the Miami hard courts in March. Tsitsipas now leads their ATP head-to-head series 12-1, with his heavy forehand and willingness to attack De Minaur’s second serve repeatedly disrupting the Australian’s preferred defensive rhythm.

De Minaur’s speed, return quality and familiarity with Washington make him a reasonable favorite, but -135 is a surprisingly short price for a top-six player facing someone ranked outside the top 50. That number reflects Tsitsipas’ historical control of the matchup and his improving form. The move from Gstaad clay to Washington hard courts creates a significant surface transition, but Tsitsipas has already beaten De Minaur on this surface in 2026 and has won five consecutive matches entering Tuesday. At plus money, the matchup history and recent revival outweigh the ranking gap.
