Brandon Nakashima vs. Jakub Mensik Prediction
Nakashima opened his tournament with a controlled 6-3, 6-4 victory over Tomas Martin Etcheverry in 81 minutes. The American hit eight aces, committed only one double fault and protected his serve well enough to avoid any prolonged pressure. That performance followed a productive grass season highlighted by a 7-5, 6-3 upset of World No. 6 Alex de Minaur during Nakashima’s run to the Queen’s Club semifinals.
Mensik faced a more difficult opening assignment but recovered from a brief second-set dip to defeat qualifier Trevor Svajda 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3. The 20-year-old has already won the Auckland title this season and reached his first Grand Slam semifinal at Roland Garros, defeating Alex de Minaur, Andrey Rublev and Joao Fonseca before falling to Alexander Zverev in four sets.
Mensik also won both previous meetings between the players on outdoor hard courts in January 2024. He defeated Nakashima 7-5, 7-5 in the Canberra Challenger semifinals before winning 6-4, 7-6(4) in Australian Open qualifying five days later. Those matches came before either player reached his current level, but Mensik repeatedly found enough first-strike offense to control the most important points.
Nakashima has developed into a more complete ATP player since those Challenger meetings, particularly with his first serve and willingness to move forward.
