Tabilo survived Tallon Griekspoor 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-4 in his opener before eliminating Terence Atmane 6-3, 7-6(6). The Chilean has now reached five quarterfinals this season and enters after producing a far cleaner second-round performance than Shelton.
This is the first career singles meeting between the two left-handers. Tabilo’s forehand and ability to redirect pace can make him dangerous when rallies become neutral, but Shelton owns the much larger serve and should receive more free points on Washington’s outdoor hard courts.
