Norrie appeared finished against Alex de Minaur after falling behind 7-5, 5-2 and facing match point. He recovered to win 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-1 in two hours and 52 minutes, breaking twice late in the second before completely controlling the decider. That followed straight-set Montreal victories over Camilo Ugo Carabelli and Ignacio Buse, leaving Norrie with five consecutive sets won after nearly being eliminated.
