Taylor Fritz enters the Cincinnati Open third round as a massive -478 favorite against Daniel Merida Aguilar at +353. That moneyline offers little value, making Fritz to win 2-0 in sets at -140 the more appealing way to back the American.
Fritz opened his tournament with an efficient 6-3, 6-4 victory over Alex Michelsen. It extended his winning streak on American soil to six matches after he captured the Washington title earlier this month, where he beat Rafael Jodar 7-6(2), 6-4 in the final. Fritz is now 29-14 in 2026 and has twice previously reached the Cincinnati quarterfinals.

Taylor Fritz vs. Daniel Merida Aguilar Prediction
That recent Washington run is particularly encouraging because Fritz is again playing on the type of outdoor hard court that maximizes his first serve and first-strike forehand. His serve-quality rating over the past 52 weeks sits well above tour average, and he can create separation quickly when opponents struggle to make enough returns.
Merida is far more dangerous than the +353 moneyline suggests at first glance. The 21-year-old won his first ATP title in Umag this summer and then reached his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal in Montreal, lifting him to a career-high No. 40. He is 18-8 this season and has gone from fringe tour player to legitimate Top-50 opposition in a matter of months.
His Cincinnati results have reinforced that rise. Merida came back to beat former Grand Slam champion Marin Cilic 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 before cruising past No. 30 seed Zizou Bergs 6-3, 6-2. He also reached the Montreal quarterfinals before Learner Tien stopped him 6-3, 6-2, so the Spaniard has now stacked significant hard-court wins rather than relying solely on his clay results.
This is the first meeting between Fritz and Merida. Merida has yet to beat a Top-10 opponent, and Fritz represents a difficult stylistic jump because he gives opponents so few neutral looks on return. Merida can defend and counter well, but he will have much less time to settle into rallies if Fritz consistently lands his first serve and attacks the next ball.

The straight-sets market creates a much better price than laying -478. Merida's recent form warrants respect, but Fritz is playing confidently, has already handled a difficult opening opponent in two sets and owns the serving advantage needed to avoid extended momentum swings. The matchup favors Fritz controlling both sets rather than simply surviving as an enormous moneyline favorite.
