Alexander Zverev vs. Tommy Paul Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest ATP Cincinnati Odds - Wednesday, August 19th

Alexander Zverev faces Tommy Paul at 1 PM ET on Wednesday, August 19, at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati. Can Paul push the top seed into another extended match, or will Zverev continue his latest run at an event where he has consistently gone deep? Check out this Alexander Zverev vs. Tommy Paul prediction and best bet for August 19.

Alexander Zverev vs. Tommy Paul Prediction: Can Tommy Paul Fight Back Against Zverev in Round of 16?

Zverev is a -281 favorite against Paul +222 in the Cincinnati Open round of 16. Rather than paying that steep moneyline, Zverev to win 2-0 sets at +100 offers essentially even money on the top seed controlling the matchup from start to finish.

Zverev's tournament began with some difficulty. He dropped the opening set to Cameron Norrie before recovering for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory, but his level improved in the third round when he beat Terence Atmane 7-6(4), 7-6(8). Zverev saved himself from an unnecessary third set after missing two match points in the second-set tiebreak.

Alexander Zverev vs. Tommy Paul Prediction

The German has historically been excellent in Cincinnati once he gets established in the draw. He won the title in 2021 and has reached at least the semifinals in each of his past four appearances, making this one of his most reliable Masters 1000 stops.

Paul has had to work considerably harder. He beat Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-3 in his opener and then fell behind Adolfo Daniel Vallejo before rallying for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory that lasted two hours and 17 minutes. Paul has therefore played six sets across two Cincinnati matches compared with five for Zverev.

Paul's athleticism and return game make him dangerous against nearly anyone on a hard court, but Zverev's serve creates a difficult matchup when the German is landing first serves consistently. Atmane played an excellent serving match Monday and still never took a set, with Zverev remaining composed through two close tiebreaks.

The concern with any Zverev 2-0 wager is the occasional concentration dip. Cincinnati has already produced one against Norrie, but the Atmane match looked much closer to the level expected from a top seed with championship aspirations. Paul, meanwhile, has lost the first set in one of his two matches and required deciding sets in both.

Alexander Zverev vs. Tommy Paul Best Bet

At -281, there is little reason to use Zverev's standard moneyline. The +100 straight-sets price rewards another controlled performance and makes much more sense after Paul spent consecutive rounds needing three sets just to advance.
