Nakashima is a -161 favorite against Borges +132 in the Cincinnati Open round of 16. Rather than laying the standard moneyline after Nakashima's exhausting Tuesday comeback, the preferred market is Nakashima to win the first set and the match at -105.
Nakashima produced one of the tournament's defining wins against Daniil Medvedev. He lost the first set 7-6(3), then faced three consecutive match points while serving at 4-5, 0/40 in the second before escaping, winning the tiebreak and running away with the decider for a 6-7(3), 7-6(4), 6-1 victory in two hours and 51 minutes.

The issue is how much that comeback took out of him. Nakashima arrived in Cincinnati immediately after reaching his first Masters 1000 final in Montreal and had also made the Washington semifinals earlier this month. He is at a career-high No. 22 and has 20 hard-court wins this season, but the accumulated workload is now becoming difficult to ignore.
Borges is not arriving as an easy opponent either. He beat Francisco Cerundolo 6-4, 6-4 and then produced one of his cleanest wins of the season against Andrey Rublev, taking the match 6-3, 6-4 after entering with an 0-5 head-to-head record against the Russian. Borges has reached the Masters 1000 round of 16 six times, although he is still searching for his first quarterfinal at this level.
That makes the opening set especially important for Nakashima. The longer this develops into another physical three-set battle, the more Tuesday's workload could become relevant. Starting quickly allows the American to play from ahead and avoid another situation where he has to expend enormous energy simply to remain in the match.
The first-set-and-match market also creates a substantial discount from the -161 moneyline. Nakashima has been the stronger hard-court player throughout this summer, and beating Medvedev from three match points down should only strengthen his confidence, but taking the normal moneyline offers less reward while still exposing the wager to the same fatigue concern.
